Anno 1800 is a captivating city-building and strategy simulation game set during the Industrial Revolution. With an AI Community Rating of 76.84%, players praise its addictive gameplay, stunning visuals, and endless replayability. Build sprawling metropolises, manage complex production chains, and explore exotic continents while navigating diplomacy, trade, and warfare. The game combines classic Anno features with innovative mechanics like expeditions and workforce management, offering a rich experience for both single-player and multiplayer modes. However, some players report frustrations with Ubisoft Connect authentication issues, mandatory account requirements, and AI trade mechanics that feel unfair. Despite these challenges, Anno 1800 remains a must-play for strategy enthusiasts seeking a deep, immersive experience. Dive into the 19th century and shape your empire today!
For the players of previous Anno titles: go for it, this is the 3.0 version of all the others. Love it. You can see and feel this game was made with love, a rarity these days I think. Newbies: not a city builder, but a supply chain game.
the game itself is fun and i honestly like it a lot HOWEVER if it were published under any other publisher it would be 10000000000 times better every single time i attempt to launch the game i have to spend so much time trying to troubleshoot the ubisoft connect launcher because it is complete and utter garbage i dont understand how they have managed to botch what used to be uplay even further but jesus christ just attempting to get into the game is genuinely the worst experiences i have ever had maybe this is just the experience ubisoft intended though: have a publisher sale where genuinely good games such as this are on sale, force players to install your absolutely terrible launcher because wahwah DRM!!!!!, game never launches, player gets screwed out of money they thought they were able to find value in thanks ubisoft
The game is very fun once you actually get to play it. My wife and I each bought it to play together. Let me save the approx. 40-50 minutes it took us to get started. 1. You (and your friends) will need an Ubisoft Connect account to play. Ideally sign up for this first on your browser. 2. If you are playing with friends, once you have created your accounts, add them via the browser page. Click on your account at the top right of the page and navigate to friends, and "add friend". 3. Go into your steam library to launch the game. You will likely hit a screen where you need an "activation code". If you google this, it will tell you to find a "cd key" option in the steam menu for the game, you likely won't. In this case, simply close the activation key screen as well as steam. Reopen steam, try to launch again, and it should just run without asking again for the key. 4. Once you go to play a game with a friend, you will be tempted to add them to game through their steam ID (this is an option). It will likely NOT work. Instead, add your friend to game via their Ubisoft account which should also show. If their Ubisoft account is not showing, one of you likely has an issue with the Ubisoft connect app and will need to reset it first. 5. Before playing with friends, I recommend you try the first 2 campaign missions. The tutorial system won't be great, so I also recommend watching a youtube video by RepublicOfPlay titled "The Essential Guide to Anno 1800 - Anno 1800 Beginner Guide". This will get you up to speed so you aren't so confused. Now you should be in good shape to play! We are still quite early in the game but the graphics are nice and the game requires some thinking, but not in an overly taxing 400 clicks per minute way. Overall we are having a good time. Enjoy.
Great game the only thing that ruins it is that awful ubisoft launcher, can't seem to play the game any more on day 2. Says another account of mine owns the game (likely when I used to play it on game pass but now own it on steam). Then I sign in to the account it suggests and wants an activation code that I don't have on steam. Urg Ubisoft you are killing your games with these silly launchers!
I finally reach 1000+ hours playing, and it's not hard to guess that this game is really be my comfort game. I didn't expect much when I bought this but I can say it is worth it. While I'm not really play many games of similar genre before, this one is by far the best I've played. Recommended.
It takes longer to load ubisoft connect than to get to the main menu of the actual game that you purchased. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game (says it on my game time of review), but having to log in to another server just to play a game on steam is just silly. Also, I mostly play single player, so if I ever travel and don't have internet, I can't even load the game. So only get this if its in a heavy discount, don't pay full price.
>Buy game on steam >Launch thru steam >Ubisoft launcher tells me the copy isn't authentic. Thank you Ubisoft, very cool!
Try to launch game. Need ubisoft account. Try to create account. Try to do captcha on tiny dialog box which can't be resized. (steam integration?) Captcha fails even though everything is right. Finally get it right. Click Create Account. Page refreshes and captcha again??? (account API call 500) Give up and use browser. Same thing on Firefox. Same thing on Chrome. Tried to log in with XBOX. Guess what? It just links your account, you still have to create account. (not SSO) Try again, now simply says "account creation failed" Easy refund, not touching any ubisoft game ever again. I heard bad reputation for their newer games but they can't even get something as simple as account creation flow working properly. What a gigantic joke.
Game itself is 5/5, but Ubisoft does everything in their power to make trying to run the game a pain in the ass. Everything other game on Steam, you buy, download, click play, and the game starts. Not Anno1800. I had to rename config files, download some bs Ubisoft launcher, and create a Ubisoft account. It still doesn't start properly sometimes. Screw Ubisoft. Good game though.
Ok here's what will happen to this game if you lose access to the Ubisoft account; When launching Ubisoft will ask you for an activation key. You don't have one since you bought on steam. Trying to create a new Ubisoft account and launching in steam gives an "activation error" on launching. Basically this is entirely launched via the Ubisoft games launcher even if you buy on Steam. Unlike steam you probably don't use Ubisoft for much so when you inevitably forget the log in details you'll be locked out even though you own the game on steam.
