AI Review

Blade & Sorcery is a groundbreaking VR medieval fantasy game that combines action, adventure, and RPG elements into an immersive experience. Built exclusively for VR, it features a physics-driven combat system where every swing, block, and spell feels realistic and impactful. With 76 weapons, 90 armor pieces, and 78 skills to unlock, players can craft their ideal warrior, ranger, or sorcerer. The game offers two modes: Crystal Hunt, a progression-based adventure with deep lore, and Sandbox, where creativity reigns supreme. The AI Community Rating of 88.17% reflects its popularity, with players praising its fun gameplay, amazing physics, and modding potential. However, some note repetitive level design, performance issues on high-end PCs, and AI behavior that could use refinement. If you're looking for a VR game that rewards creativity and offers endless combat possibilities, Blade & Sorcery is a must-try.

What the community wishes

AI behavior needs improvement
AI enemies often behave unrealistically, running too close, clipping weapons, or performing unnatural moves. They lack proper distancing and combat strategy, making fights feel janky and less immersive.
Repetitive level design
Levels can feel repetitive despite different paths and rooms. Players suggest more variety in level design to maintain engagement and reduce monotony.
Performance issues on high-end PCs
The game suffers from performance issues, including freezing, glitching, and camera wobble, even on high-end hardware. These issues are exclusive to this game and need urgent patching.
Lack of developer-created story content
The story mode is fun but lacks depth and content, leading to repetitiveness. Players suggest expanding the story with more developer-created content to enhance replayability.
Camera wobble bug persists
A long-standing camera wobble bug causes nausea and frustration, especially during outpost levels. This issue has been unaddressed for over a year and needs immediate attention.
Enemy difficulty imbalance
The game's difficulty curve is inconsistent, with players either dominating or struggling. Balancing enemy difficulty and progression would improve the overall experience.
Limited base game content
The base game feels lacking in content, with players quickly exhausting what's available. Adding more story-driven or exploration-based content would enhance the experience.
AI weapon handling issues
AI enemies struggle with two-handed weapons and often fail to use shields effectively. Improving AI weapon handling would make combat more challenging and realistic.
Blocking and parrying mechanics unreliable
Blocking and parrying mechanics are inconsistent, often failing to work as intended. Players suggest refining these mechanics for smoother combat.
Lack of half-swording mechanics
The game lacks advanced sword techniques like half-swording or grabbing the blade. Adding these mechanics would deepen combat complexity and realism.
Modding slows down performance
While mods enhance the game, they significantly slow down performance, even on high-end PCs. Optimizing mod support would improve the experience for mod-heavy players.
Story mode needs more depth
The story mode is engaging but lacks depth and replay value. Expanding the narrative and adding more varied objectives would enhance its appeal.
Boss fights become repetitive
Boss fights, especially the Golem, lose their excitement after the first encounter. Adding more variety and challenge to boss encounters would keep them engaging.
Outpost levels plagued with bugs
Outpost levels are particularly buggy, with frequent glitches and performance issues. Fixing these bugs would improve the overall stability of the game.
Gameplay feels unbalanced
The game alternates between being too easy and too difficult, with little middle ground. Balancing gameplay mechanics would create a more consistent and enjoyable experience.
Lack of advanced sword techniques
The game lacks advanced sword techniques, limiting combat depth. Adding features like half-swording or blade grabbing would enhance realism and player engagement.
Camera issues during combat
Camera wobble and instability during combat make the game nauseating and frustrating. Addressing these camera issues is critical for a smoother experience.
AI lacks strategic combat behavior
AI enemies often lack strategic behavior, making combat feel less challenging. Improving AI tactics and distancing would make fights more engaging.
Story mode needs more variety
The story mode is enjoyable but lacks variety in objectives and encounters. Adding more diverse missions and challenges would enhance its replayability.
Performance optimization needed for mods
Modding significantly impacts performance, even on high-end systems. Optimizing the game to handle mods more efficiently would improve the experience for mod-heavy players.

You have not experienced gaming until you're holding onto a golem for dear life as you try to punch out one of its crystals while the game breaks every single rule in the VR motion sickness guidebook. Pure unadulterated ludo. Highly recommended.

Negative

Great game, but plagued with performance issues. Even on recommended hardware (High-End computer, USB-C 3.0 connection), its nigh on impossible to make it through one of the newly introduced Outpost levels without the game freezing, glitching, or tweaking out. I feel like I need to reiterate before I continue, what I am experiencing is NOT a hardware issue. I can consistently run other, much more demanding VR titles, such as Half-Life Alyx, and EXTREMELY demanding desktop titles, such as Teardown. The myriad of issues I've experienced are exclusive to this game, which is why I'm so peeved about them. A constant bug (that has existed for over a year at least, never patched) makes the game completely nauseating with dramatic camera wobble, which also occurs constantly during outpost levels. Most disappointingly, the Dalgarian levels (the spectacle levels of the Crystal Hunt campaign mode) seem to be plagued with these issues the worst. It feels like every time I try to go through one of these levels, I discover a new frustrating bug that impedes my progress. Hopefully, WarpFrog will finally take notice of the worst of these bugs (specifically the camera shake bug, so genuinely frustrating to deal with) and patches them, but as time goes on, that seems more and more unlikely to happen. TL;DR: Amazing game, but needs a lot more time in the oven. If you're interested in this game, but are unsure about its performance, just hold off for a while until some of the more excruciating bugs are patched out.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game to be great overall, with enjoyable gameplay and engaging content.
    • I am frustrated by the performance issues, especially the freezing, glitching, and tweaking during Outpost levels, even on high-end hardware.
    • I feel the need to clarify that the issues I am experiencing are not due to my hardware, as I can run more demanding VR and desktop titles without problems.
    • I am extremely annoyed by the constant camera wobble bug, which has existed for over a year and remains unpatched, making the game nauseating to play.
    • I am disappointed that the Dalgarian levels, which are supposed to be the spectacle levels of the Crystal Hunt campaign, are the most affected by these performance issues.
    • I am hopeful that WarpFrog will eventually address the worst bugs, particularly the camera shake bug, but I am becoming less optimistic as time passes.
    • I recommend that potential buyers hold off on purchasing the game until the most frustrating bugs are patched, as the current state is not ideal.
    • I appreciate the game's potential and believe it could be amazing with more development time and bug fixes.
    • I am frustrated by the lack of progress in fixing long-standing issues, which detracts from the overall experience.
    • I find the game's concept and design to be impressive, but the technical issues overshadow its strengths.

Negative

Honestly after being one of my favorite games for VR of all time, 1.0 turned out to be a very big disappointment. Crystal Hunt The Dungeon crawling mode was honestly pretty cool! However, 1.0 barely added any new rooms to the existing dungeons, meaning 80% of the rooms you come across have already been playable for years. The biggest issue however, is the AI. The AI, as with most VR games, really really cheapen the experience. They will circle you at inhuman speeds, and throw their lives away without meaning. 90% of the enemies (the 10% being the ones with helmets) will quite literally just walk head first into your weapon if you extend your arm and let them. Their attacks and animations have the NPC playing what looks like a puppeteer'd animation that they are LOCKED into. If they hit you, or get too close during said animation, they do not stop it. They WILL continue their swing through you and your body, making it extremely awkward. As much as I'd like to recommend this game now that it's at a full 1.0 release, I would but 50% off. It is extremely repetitive and once you learn how the AI decides between its 3 choices it makes in combat (walk backwards awkwardly, stand still, or very aggressively phase into you). It's a VR SWORD FIGHTING GAME and the AI can't even use two handed weapons... after years of early access.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel very disappointed with the 1.0 release of this game, as it was one of my favorite VR games before, but the update did not meet my expectations.
    • I found the Crystal Hunt dungeon-crawling mode to be pretty cool and enjoyable, which added some positive value to the game.
    • I am frustrated that 80% of the dungeon rooms in the 1.0 update are recycled from previous versions, making the experience feel repetitive and uninspired.
    • I am extremely dissatisfied with the AI behavior, as it feels cheap and unrealistic, with enemies circling at inhuman speeds and making nonsensical decisions.
    • I find it awkward and immersion-breaking that enemy animations are locked in, causing them to continue attacks even when it makes no logical sense.
    • I feel the game becomes repetitive once you understand the AI's limited combat choices, which reduces the overall enjoyment and challenge.
    • I am disappointed that the AI cannot use two-handed weapons, which feels like a missed opportunity for a VR sword-fighting game after years of development.
    • I would only recommend this game at a 50% discount, as the current state does not justify the full price due to its flaws and lack of innovation.

Negative

AI ruins the whole experience, it's either too easy to defeat or too janky to fight against. They always walk right into your face like an annoying mosquito, clip their weapon through yours, and hit you, or they suddenly perform an inhuman move out of nowhere. Sometimes, they're so determined to give you a backshot that you have to spin around like a biological Beyblade just to keep up.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel frustrated because the AI behavior is inconsistent, making the game either too easy or too janky to fight against.
    • I find it annoying that the AI characters often walk right into my face, behaving like an irritating mosquito.
    • I am bothered by the AI clipping their weapons through mine, which feels unfair and unrealistic.
    • I am frustrated when the AI suddenly performs inhuman moves out of nowhere, breaking immersion and fairness.
    • I feel overwhelmed when the AI is overly determined to attack from behind, forcing me to spin around constantly to defend myself.
    • I dislike the lack of balance in the AI's difficulty, as it swings between being too easy and too unpredictable.
    • I find the AI's behavior unrealistic and immersion-breaking, which detracts from the overall experience.
    • I feel like the AI's actions are poorly designed, leading to a frustrating and unsatisfying gameplay experience.

Negative

3rrd edit: just a minor complaint but please devs, if you are reading this, Fix the index controller finger tracking please. the fingers can get caught up on top of eachother 2nd edit: Yeah no it didn't help. Also forgot to mention that it lags my whole pc to the point of unusability sometimes, and one time my PC BSOD'ed. OPTIMIZATION, PEOPLE. PLEASE. Edit: Reboot+Reinstall helps a lot. I really want to like this game, but on 4 year old hardware I get 30-40 FPS, which is ok, but as soon as I load a different level than home, I instantly start having 5 seconds per frame, and then slowly recover to about 5 fps, which is only fixable by rebooting the game, making it practically unplayable. Works great other times though. Poor optimization for PC, not enough graphics settings

  • Sentiments

    • I really want to like this game, but the poor optimization for PC and lack of sufficient graphics settings make it difficult to enjoy.
    • On 4-year-old hardware, I get 30-40 FPS, which is acceptable, but loading a different level causes severe performance issues, dropping to 5 seconds per frame and recovering to only 5 FPS, making it practically unplayable.
    • Rebooting and reinstalling the game helps improve performance significantly, but it is not a permanent solution.
    • The game sometimes lags my entire PC to the point of unusability, and I even experienced a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) once, which is extremely frustrating.
    • The index controller finger tracking needs improvement, as the fingers can get caught up on top of each other, which is a minor but noticeable issue.
    • When the game works properly, it performs great, which shows potential, but these moments are overshadowed by the frequent performance problems.
    • The game's performance issues, such as severe lag and low FPS, require constant rebooting, which disrupts the gameplay experience.
    • The lack of optimization for PC hardware, especially older systems, is a significant drawback that needs to be addressed by the developers.
    • Despite the performance issues, I acknowledge that the game has moments where it works well, indicating that it could be enjoyable with better optimization.
    • The game's performance problems, including lag and crashes, make it difficult to recommend in its current state, even though I want to like it.

Negative

After around 14hours and my 7th dungeon it decided to stop loading the teleport at the end of the golum fight, making me waste around 20 min for 3 times before i finally gave up. the climbing is one of the worst i had in any vr game and 6 months and still no achievements that where promised 4 years ago

  • Sentiments

    • I experienced a frustrating technical issue where the game stopped loading the teleport at the end of the Golem fight, causing me to waste around 20 minutes three times before giving up.
    • The climbing mechanics in this VR game are among the worst I have ever encountered in any VR game.
    • I am disappointed that after 6 months, the achievements promised 4 years ago are still not available in the game.
