Brotato is a fast-paced, top-down arena shooter roguelite where you play as a potato wielding up to 6 weapons simultaneously to fend off hordes of aliens. With an AI Community Rating of 90.17%, this indie gem offers addictive gameplay, quick runs under 30 minutes, and a variety of characters, items, and weapons to create unique builds. Players praise its fun, engaging, and value-packed experience, with achievements and fast-paced action keeping them hooked. However, some note repetitive enemy types and maps, as well as steep boss difficulty spikes. Despite minor flaws, Brotato’s accessibility options, local co-op for up to 4 players, and hundreds of customization choices make it a standout in the roguelite genre. If you’re seeking a chaotic, potato-powered adventure, Brotato delivers a spud-tacular time!
The new DLC is really good. The new Curse mechanic is very nice and fun to play. There is a bunch of new characters, but tbh some of them feel like a variation of something already existing, but there are also some innovative ones. There is a lot of new content. New weapons, new items - that's always good. Tons of new achievements to do - basically DLC asks you to finish the game again with all the characters on the new map. In general in my opinion this DLC is everything you would expect, I don't know why people are complaining.
Brotato ..what the hell is this? I'll try to share my experience I had in the following review. My experience with roguelite survival games was pretty good in past, i had a lot of fun with Nomad or Reinfield so this genre is nothing new for me. Brotato" features a minimalistic and cartoony art style,a small and simple map ,at first glance nothing impressive but rather a clean board where can see everything even when you fight horde of enemies. The character rooster is large and this is what i liked most ,every character brings something different and new strategies however is that enough to be a good game and original? It depends ..for me it was repetitive but decent enough to make me spend a lot of hours on it. This game runs great on Steam deck or older hardware, also If you like potatoes just play it.. In conclusion my feelings for Brotato are kind of mixed but i still recommend for the fans of the genre. Pros -Large arsenal of weapons ,items and upgrades -Large character rooster -Smooth gameplay Cons -Repetitive My Scores Story - 1 Gameplay - 8 Graphics - 7 Sound - 8 Overall - 6
As someone who never really got into the hype behind Vampire Survivors and their genre-like titles, I am sitting here with 100% achievement completion on Brotato thinking of how I can ever try the other titles after playing it. Brotato just did something to my brain that I didn't think was possible with these kind of titles. The ease of access getting into it and learning during each run really captivated me and kept me going for 100% completion, which I don't usually do for video games. I could go on, and on about the character designs, the enemy designs, the items, the stats, hell, even the music. (It's all freaking amazing, by the way.) But I will just say, to anyone that plays these Vampire Survivor-like titles, Brotato is a must-have in your library. I played so much on Steam Deck, which ran perfect, and also on my PC and I always played with a sense of fun and a smile on my face. Brotato is my all-time favorite survivor-like title and I am super hyped for the upcoming DLC! I fully recommend!
Brotato is an arena roguelike game with no story and addicting and very fast paced gameplay: survive 20+ short rounds with harder and ever increasing numbers of enemies. Tons of different stats that can all be individualized through level completion bonuses and the dozens and dozens of different weapons and items available. Dozens of different classes that may make better use of certain stats and/or weapon types. Multiple difficulty levels, plus the option for automatic or manual aim, as well as an option to change enemy handicap/bonuses, make the game fairly customizeable to everyone's tastes. There game also supports Workshop where a number of mods is available. All these make the game highly replayable, even though the arena itself and the enemies remain the same. Simple but well polished and cute 2D graphics, and decent soundtrack and effects to boot. To finish, plays beautifully in the Steam Deck. Overall, a gem that is a bargain at full price, and worth every penny of it. 10/10
COOL GAME. Nicely drawn design. As you complete levels, new characters and mechanics are unlocked. Quick rounds for 20-30 minutes, just enough to get you into a good mood in the evening without any problems for your family. I recommend it to all fans of survival games and Crimsonland
An [Okay] game. Mediocre rogue lite survival-like shooter, with the biggest downside being very basic, it is still fun to come back from time to time to complete a run on every character but it is minimal and has little to no variety, same old thing, same scenario, same weapons with slight stat and schtick variation per each character. More variation of challenges, different levels or mobs, longer rounds, etc. would make it better as it heavily lacks core gameplay variety. ULC Update: doesn't really change much, new map, you can beat it with each character for achievement, but no other reason than that. The game has move weapons and a bit more reason to play the hardest difficulty (more rewards), but other than that it is still quite shallow, doesn't feel like there's any other reason to beat it other than getting achievements.
I did try to play it, but it's just annoying to endure such a boring gameplay based on walking in circles in a square with little to no effort on making the game provide some unique or fun experience. The "dopamine" effect of this game is similar to Vampire Survivors or circling through endless videos on TikTok/Instagram.
The game itself is good and does many things better than other games in the genre. BUT when developers go anti consumer, deny owners of the base game the bundle that includes the dlc to at least get a 10% discount on an overpriced dlc (which was resolved after a few hours), overpricing it due to greed and then the dlc itself breaks the game and save files on release day and is still an unbalanced mess days after - how can anyone rate it positive after this? A classic case of success made developers show their true bad nature, bottling the next release (in this case the "big" dlc) and completely ruining their reputation for the future. Im personaly not supporting this and wont buy any future product of Blobfish! Good luck.
Update has entirely killed the game for my laptop, going into a character's weapon selection crashes the game. Edit: Bought a new laptop, game still doesn't work. Tried the help in the discussion forums, still didn't work. Had a friend try the game on their computer, still didn't work. I have no idea how anyone else is playing this update but clearly I just have an aura of making technology not function
This used to be the greatest bullet hell of all time, but they screwed up the balancing and now it just plain sucks. This used to be the absolute king, and I've played them all : VS, HoT, DMD, Scarlet Tower, Lazurus, Boneraiser, Bounty, Deeprock, 20 Mins, Army, Nordic, Genesia, Yet another... They're all vetter than what Brotato is now and Brotato used to absolutely demolish all of them. I'd love to see this game rebalanced because it was something special.
