Celeste is a critically acclaimed indie platformer that combines tight gameplay, a heartfelt story, and stunning visuals. With an AI Community Rating of 90.2%, this game has captivated players with its challenging yet rewarding mechanics. You play as Madeline, a young woman battling her inner demons while climbing the treacherous Celeste Mountain. The game features over 700 hand-crafted screens of platforming challenges, devious secrets, and brutal B-side chapters for the bravest players. The narrative-driven adventure is praised for its touching story of self-discovery and charming characters. Fans rave about the game's beautiful soundtrack, which includes over 2 hours of original music blending live piano and synth beats. However, some players note the difficulty can be frustrating, with deaths being a frequent but educational experience. The controls are simple—jump, air-dash, and climb—but mastering them requires precision, especially with diagonal dashes. While the game is challenging, its lightning-fast respawns keep the momentum going. Community suggestions include expanding Assist Mode options, adding more post-game content, and improving hidden area hints. If you love platformers with emotional depth and a rewarding challenge, Celeste is a must-play.

Celeste is a must-play masterpiece. Its precision platforming is flawless, with each level ramping up in difficulty in a way that challenges you yet constantly motivates you to push forward. Beyond its exceptional gameplay, Celeste delivers a story about personal growth and inner struggles—something you wouldn’t expect from a platformer, but it adds a layer of emotional depth that makes the experience more memorable. Completing the game at 100% was tough, but it stands out as one of the most rewarding gaming experiences I've ever had. If you're after a challenge with a good level design, Celeste offers a satisfying adventure.
This game is absolutely brutal, but in a *mostly* good way. There is a LOT of precision required to beat this kind of game. I'm not the biggest fan of precision platformers, but this is a fun one, albeit very hard. You will die countless of times, and you will really have to master the movements. Respawns are almost instant so it's not really a pain in the ass to die over and over, and most sections are short so you will not respawns way back. There is an assist mode that can alter the game to make it a bit easier, which to be honest, I use a lot, since I'm not a skilled player. Some people may call it cheating, but the devs put it there for a reason. If you want to use it, it's there, and there is no "punishment" for using it. The story is really good and heartfelt. Personally it really hit home with the mental health theme. I really like the games theme, it is an important one and one so many people will relate to in one way or another, including me. The writing is very good as well. The pixel artstyle is absolutely gorgeous, and the colors pop. The music is amazing as well, with a wide variety of soundtracks. Lena Raine is extremely talented, and you can find her work in this game as well as minecraft among many other games. I want to go for 100% completion on this, but it is so difficult I might not be able to do it, at least not with a heavy use of assist mode. But it is certainly fun to try. An amazing game worth a try. Don't give up!
Music is amazing. Neat environments. Could never justify putting in enough time to beat it without assist as it is mostly bashing your head against the wall unless you are already good at these kinds of games. Sure you have assist mode, it makes it easier HOWEVER that just takes away the only gameplay there is. I beat quite a few stages without it, and it got to the point where it was just not fun and when I DID beat the levels I had the feeling of "thank FUCK I never have to do that ever again" rather than anything near a sense of accomplishment. TLDR; only get it if you like difficult platformers.
Is it a good game? According to the reviews YES. Did I have fun with it? Unfortunately, NO. That's why I can't recommend it. I'm an older guy. My reflexes aren't what they used to be. But I can still play and gitgud in some challenging games, like this amazing precision platformer. In Celeste I tried and failed..... The first few chapters were fine. Then I struggled too much and stopped having fun. Somewhere around the seventh chapter I started using the slow down assist. I finished the whole core on slow down. Now, halfway through the B-sides, the game got so hard even slowdown isn't enough to get through and I'm unable to progress. There's also something wrong with the controller controls, at least for me. Even after almost 30 hours, I still can't control my character reliably. Especially the dashes keep going in the wrong direction. I can't explain why this is happening, but it is. Now I've run out of energy and have to give up. This game broke me. But I'm glad for everyone who enjoys it.
This one game, within the span of 20 hours, nearly caused me to throw a controller across the room an average of 4 times every hour. To put that into perspective, that is me having to stop myself from throwing a controller across the room every 15 minutes. And I know what I'm about to say is controversial in the Celeste community, but I'm realizing a "precision platformer" is not for me, and as such I'm leaving a negative review since the question is "Do you recommend this game?", and my answer is no. I'd be better off playing a FromSoftware game while getting tased everytime I take 1 point of damage. However, despite all of my negativity, if you really enjoy Precision Platformers, take my review as a recommendation and go buy the game, this will likely be fun for you. If you don't enjoy Precision Platformers, stay away from Celeste no matter how many times someone tells you to buy the game.
Multiple crashes broke my immersion and lead to unnecessary frustration. Early into the game, I quit trying to collect strawberries because of the crashing. Fixed by playing in windowed mode. This game is best played on controller. I played this game with one hand on the keyboard which led to my pink finger being overloaded. Consider playing with two hands on the keyboard. The game tries to incentivize exploring with collectibles, but the exploring feels punishing because you have to do more platforming to return to the main story. The story did not resonate with me. SPOILERS: The backwards wind section was incredibly frustrating due to the character moving at a snail's pace. On the contrary, the forwards wind section was by far the best part of the game.
The game is hard. That is not the problem. The issue is that in combination with difficulty it will drop or create *phantom* inputs which for a game of such precision is absolutely unacceptable. That black goo in chapter 2 (and it's beside) is absolutely busted as it will often not bring you into it even if you dash directly into it from point blank. Issue amplified downwards and especially upwards. Do not recommend if you are not willing to sink many attempts (and not-your-fault deaths) into it.
