What the community wishes

Improve Anti-Cheat System
VAC and VACnet are ineffective, with cheaters bypassing trust factor and ruining matches. Players demand a robust anti-cheat system like Faceit or Valorant to address rampant cheating in Premier and MM modes.
Reintroduce Overwatch System
The Overwatch system was reintroduced but is not functional for many players. A working Overwatch system is needed to help identify and ban cheaters.
Fix Movement Mechanics
Movement in CS2 feels like a downgrade from CS:GO, with inconsistent ledge jumps. Players request improvements to movement mechanics to match or exceed CS:GO standards.
Add Missing Game Modes
Danger Zone and other alternative game modes are missing in CS2. Players want these modes reintroduced to restore the full CS:GO experience.
Address Cheating in Premier
Premier mode is plagued by hackers and griefers, with unfair ELO losses. Players suggest implementing stricter anti-cheat measures and better griefing penalties.
Improve Griefing Cooldown System
The griefing cooldown system is overly punitive, requiring an unrealistic number of games to reduce cooldowns. Players suggest a more balanced and fair system.
Reintroduce Operations and Battle Pass
Players miss Operations and meaningful battle passes, with the last decent one being Operation Hydra in 2017. They want new, engaging content like Operations and better battle passes.
Optimize Game Performance
CS2 suffers from poor performance and low FPS, making it less enjoyable. Players demand better optimization to improve gameplay smoothness.
Fix Subtick and Hit Registration
Subtick and hit registration issues make gunfights feel inconsistent. Players want 128-tick servers or improvements to subtick mechanics for better accuracy.
Reintroduce Cache Map
Cache, a fan-favorite map, is missing in CS2. Players request its return to the map pool for more variety.
Address Matchmaking Imbalance
Matchmaking often pairs low-rank players against high-rank opponents, leading to unbalanced games. Players want better rank-based matchmaking for fairer matches.
Improve Weapon Charms
Weapon charms are seen as a waste of development resources. Players suggest focusing on core gameplay improvements instead of cosmetic additions.
Fix Toxicity and Griefing
Toxicity and griefing are rampant, with players often trolling or sabotaging matches. Players want stricter penalties and better tools to report toxic behavior.
Reintroduce CS:GO Features
CS2 lacks many features that made CS:GO great, such as certain maps and mechanics. Players want these features reintroduced to restore the game's quality.
Improve Sound and Visual Clarity
Players find it harder to spot enemies in CS2 due to visual and sound design changes. They request brighter colors and clearer sound cues for better gameplay.
Address Smurfing Issues
Smurfing is a significant problem, with high-rank players dominating low-rank matches. Players suggest stricter measures to prevent smurfing and ensure fair matches.
Fix Server Stability
Valve servers are unstable compared to Faceit servers, leading to poor gameplay experiences. Players want more reliable and stable servers.
Reintroduce Danger Zone
Danger Zone, a popular game mode in CS:GO, is missing in CS2. Players want it reintroduced to provide more variety in gameplay.
Improve ELO System
The ELO system in Premier is flawed, with unfair point losses due to cheaters or leavers. Players want a more balanced and fair ELO system.
Address Cheater Reporting Issues
Players report obvious cheaters but see no action taken. They want a more effective reporting system and faster responses to cheater reports.

Positive

This game has ruined itself. They could add a kernel-level anti-cheat but they are adamant on the fact that their AI anti-cheat will at some point surpass the cheats. How many more months do we have to play against people with cheats? It also doesn't help that they manually give suspensions to some experience boosters that have different colored medals. These medals are obtained by automation and in the end doesn't ruin the competitive experience of the game whatsoever. They could easily fix this by increasing the amount of experience you can gain from playing the game, making service medals of the highest tier easier to obtain, instead, the game punishes you by reducing your experience by playing more. The griefing cooldown system is completely broken. If you have received an infraction and the next game you play you get reported for griefing, you will get suspended for another x amount of days, it requires an inhuman amount of games without reports to reduce the level of your cooldowns and for the days to go down. This becomes increasingly problematic when an old player plays the game and new players think that he cheats just because he is playing on an account that doesnt have colorful yearly medals to show off the fact that he has played the game for long. Griefing cooldowns were a mistake and not adding a kernel level anti-cheat is also a big mistake. Its a sad state for the game and the only way to play the game properly is to play third-party-services like FACEIT. I expect better in the future.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that the game has ruined itself due to the lack of a kernel-level anti-cheat system, which allows cheaters to persist and negatively impact the experience.
    • I am frustrated that the developers are relying on an AI anti-cheat system, which has not yet proven effective in surpassing cheats, leaving players to deal with cheaters for months.
    • I find it unfair that the game manually suspends players who use experience boosters with different colored medals, even though these medals do not harm the competitive experience.
    • I believe the game could improve by increasing the amount of experience gained from gameplay and making high-tier service medals easier to obtain, rather than punishing players for playing more.
    • I am disappointed with the griefing cooldown system, which is overly punitive and requires an unrealistic number of games without reports to reduce cooldown levels.
    • I feel that the griefing cooldown system unfairly targets older players, as new players may mistakenly report them for cheating due to their lack of colorful yearly medals.
    • I think the griefing cooldown system was a mistake and that the absence of a kernel-level anti-cheat system is a significant oversight by the developers.
    • I am saddened by the current state of the game, which forces players to rely on third-party services like FACEIT to enjoy a proper gaming experience.
    • I expect better from the developers in the future, hoping for improvements to the anti-cheat system and overall game mechanics.
    • I feel that the game's current state is a letdown, and the reliance on third-party services highlights the failure of the in-game systems to provide a fair and enjoyable experience.

    • I appreciate the effort put into the visuals, as they are vibrant and immersive, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the game.
VAC doesn't work. VACnet is not working. Cheaters kill you right at respawn. Cheaters taught how to bypass the trust factor. This game is completely dead for honest players. Just delete it, don't waste your nerves. There are more cheaters in CS2 than in all other games combined. I was hoping that with the release of CS2 they would make a good anti-cheat like for Faceit or Valorant, but the developers did nothing. Everything became even worse than it was in csgo. In 9 out of 10 games you will have legit or rage cheaters, it doesn’t matter, but they will happen. This is an ideal trust factor, I can’t imagine what’s going on with those who just downloaded the game. The game is simply unplayable. In Premier there are only RAGE cheaters which kill your entire team through 10 walls to the head in a second. In MM mode, at 5 silver there are also rage cheaters. The developers don't care. GAME DEAD. Honest players have nothing to do here. Standing AFK at spawn is all that can be done here, it’s not possible to play normally here. UPD They returned the Overwatch system, but for some reason it didn’t appear for me. In any case, there is still no anti-cheat. Upd Overwatch don't work.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) is completely ineffective and does not work as intended, leading to a frustrating experience.
    • I believe that VACnet, the AI-based anti-cheat system, is also not functioning properly, which exacerbates the cheating problem.
    • I am extremely frustrated by cheaters who kill players right at respawn, making the game unplayable for honest players.
    • I am disappointed that cheaters have found ways to bypass the trust factor system, which was supposed to improve the gaming experience.
    • I think the game is completely dead for honest players, and I feel it is not worth playing due to the overwhelming number of cheaters.
    • I am upset that the developers did not implement a strong anti-cheat system like those in Faceit or Valorant, despite the release of CS2.
    • I feel that the situation with cheaters has worsened in CS2 compared to CS:GO, which is very disappointing.
    • I am frustrated that in 9 out of 10 games, I encounter either legit or rage cheaters, making the game unenjoyable.
    • I believe that the Premier mode is unplayable due to rage cheaters who can kill entire teams through walls in seconds.
    • I am disappointed that the Overwatch system, which was reintroduced, does not seem to be working effectively to combat cheaters.

I was in ranked and a guy really said "i play on mouse keyboard sry" https://imgur.com/a/O15549j 13/10/2021 update : I got global, my time has come, I can finally repose in peace. 15/05/2024 update : FACEIT LVL 10 LET'S GOOOO I'M DONK 2 3/10/2024 update: They destroyed the game I loved

  • Sentiments

    • I was amused and slightly frustrated when a player in ranked mentioned they were using a mouse and keyboard, which felt out of place or unexpected in the context of the game.
    • I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment when I achieved the rank of Global, marking a significant milestone in my gaming journey.
    • I experienced immense joy and excitement upon reaching FACEIT Level 10, comparing myself to a professional player, which felt like a dream come true.
    • I felt a deep sense of loss and disappointment when the game I loved was destroyed, leaving me heartbroken and nostalgic for what it once was.

Counter-Strike 2 is the most botched game release I've ever seen. Valve thought it would be a good idea to have this title literally replace the prior installment "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" on Steam entirely, which would probably be fine if the game actually was a straight upgrade in every respect -- but it was and is far from that. I won't write about the cut features, bugs, and other gameplay issues at launch which were most likely discussed to death in other reviews. These were largely added/fixed by now (except some alternative gamemodes -- most notably Danger Zone), but the movement especially still feels like a downgrade from CS:GO: you just can't consistently jump up onto certain ledges, many of which can definitely be relevant to the standard defusal-mode's gameplay. On the other hand, the game's visuals are pretty good, and I really like change to smoke grenades. This review would likely still be a recommendation if Valve didn't try to memory-hole its predecessor. --- I previously (March 2024) complained about Counter-Strike's cheating problem in this review, which has has gotten a lot better since (on my rank anyway). For transparency's sake I will leave the original paragraph and conclusion here: I think it would be a conservative estimate if I said that 80% of my matches in the competitive gamemodes were against some count of cheaters. That is players who will prefire you at the least likely spots, flashbang the most remote locations to try to get you, shoot you even before you turn a corner, or just spin-bot and headshot your entire team through walls. In the past I thought CS:GO had a cheater problem, but Valve have actually managed to let it get way WAY worse. Needless to say it is impossible to recommend this game to anyone in its current state.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that Counter-Strike 2 is the most botched game release I've ever seen, as it replaced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive without being a straight upgrade in every respect.
    • I am disappointed that many features were cut, and the game had numerous bugs and gameplay issues at launch, though most have been fixed by now.
    • I find the movement in Counter-Strike 2 to be a downgrade from CS:GO, as it feels inconsistent, especially when trying to jump onto certain ledges.
    • I appreciate the improved visuals in Counter-Strike 2, which I find to be pretty good.
    • I really like the change to smoke grenades in Counter-Strike 2, which adds a positive aspect to the gameplay.
    • I am frustrated that Valve attempted to 'memory-hole' Counter-Strike: Global Offensive by replacing it entirely with Counter-Strike 2.
    • I previously experienced a severe cheating problem in Counter-Strike 2, with an estimated 80% of my competitive matches involving cheaters.
    • I noticed that cheaters in Counter-Strike 2 would prefire unlikely spots, flashbang remote locations, and even headshot through walls, making the game unplayable.
    • I acknowledge that the cheating problem has improved since March 2024, at least in my rank, which is a positive development.
    • I cannot recommend Counter-Strike 2 in its current state due to the issues with movement, cheating, and the removal of CS:GO.

Negative
The Worst Path for CS2’s Future
A year after release, the game still doesn’t have the functionality of CS:GO, there hasn’t been a battle pass for 3 years, and the last decent one was Operation Hydra back in 2017... And after a whole year! We get this disaster. It’s not even a parody of a battle pass or a viewer pass for a Major, it’s a one-time ticket for 40 stars (basically 20 cases, $0.75 per unit), a huge batch of cosmetics, and charms. Seriously? The anti-cheat is full of holes, after a year we’re still in the first season of ranked, not all maps or modes are available, but there is a new way to milk money from fools. Total disrespect, the ship is sinking (Standoff 2).

  • Sentiments

    • I feel extremely disappointed that a year after release, the game still lacks the functionality of its predecessor, CS:GO.
    • I am frustrated that there hasn’t been a battle pass for 3 years, and the last decent one was Operation Hydra back in 2017.
    • I find the recent battle pass or viewer pass for the Major to be a disaster, offering minimal value for the price.
    • I am annoyed that the anti-cheat system is full of holes, making the game less enjoyable and fair.
    • I am upset that after a year, the game is still in the first season of ranked play, showing a lack of progress.
    • I feel disrespected that not all maps or modes are available, yet there are new ways to monetize the game.
    • I am critical of the new monetization strategy, which feels like a way to exploit players rather than improve the game.
    • I perceive the game as sinking, with a lack of respect for the player base and their expectations.
    • I am disappointed by the lack of meaningful updates or improvements, focusing instead on cosmetic items and charms.
    • I feel that the game is prioritizing profit over player satisfaction, which is a major letdown.

Negative

3.5k hours across different accounts. The game's most pressing problems can be described in cheating tendency & developers who couldn't give af about maintaining their game as long as pawns keep bringing revenue. They will never risk making changes as long as the product works (brings money from cases), and when they do risk it, you get an even worse version of the product that is CS2. You will learn the game mechanics by hard, then get matchmade against thirteen year olds who're entitled to slay you bcs they found free undetectable software on a widely visible website. The reason I keep playing it is to merely fill up the void that former CSGO left in me. If you're new to CS, I recommend you don't torment yourself by playing it. Edit: don't play on Wednesdays, even comp is full on subhumans farming drops with cheats that day

  • Sentiments

    • I feel deeply frustrated with the game's cheating problem, as it ruins the experience and makes it unfair for legitimate players.
    • I am disappointed with the developers for not prioritizing game maintenance and focusing only on revenue from cases.
    • I feel let down by the developers' reluctance to make meaningful changes, as it shows a lack of care for the game's quality.
    • I am unhappy with the release of CS2, as it feels like a worse version of the game compared to CSGO.
    • I feel frustrated with the matchmaking system, as it often pairs me against younger players using undetectable cheats.
    • I continue playing the game only to fill the void left by the former CSGO, which I miss deeply.
    • I strongly advise new players to avoid the game, as it can be a tormenting experience for beginners.
    • I feel annoyed by the influx of cheaters on Wednesdays, as it makes competitive play unbearable due to drop farming.
    • I have spent a significant amount of time (3.5k hours) across different accounts, which shows my dedication despite the game's flaws.
    • I feel a sense of resignation, as the game's problems seem unlikely to be resolved due to the developers' focus on profit.
