AI Review

Devil May Cry 5 is a high-octane action game that brings back the ultimate Devil Hunter with style. Featuring three playable characters—Nero, Dante, and the mysterious V—the game offers a unique blend of stylish combat, photorealistic graphics powered by Capcom’s RE Engine, and a killer soundtrack. With an AI Community Rating of 86.89%, players praise its fun, engaging combat, amazing characters, and gripping story. However, some criticize repetitive level design, frustrating controls, and the lack of post-game content. Whether you're a fan of the series or new to the franchise, Devil May Cry 5 delivers a visually stunning and adrenaline-pumping experience, though improvements like better difficulty balance and more enemy variety could elevate it further.

What the community wishes

Improve Dante Must Die difficulty balance
The 'Dante Must Die' difficulty mode is criticized for being unfun due to excessive enemy health and overpowered enemy buffs, leading to repetitive and tedious combat. Adjusting enemy health scaling and reducing buffs could improve pacing and enjoyment.
Add more level variety
Level design becomes repetitive towards the end of the game. Introducing more diverse environments and unique level mechanics could enhance the overall experience and keep players engaged.
Enable cycling through Nero's arms
Players cannot cycle through Nero's arms without destroying the current one. Adding a way to switch arms seamlessly would improve gameplay fluidity and strategy.
Include Special Edition on PC
The Special Edition, which includes DLC, is not available for PC. Releasing this edition on PC would provide parity with console versions and satisfy fans.
Improve directional input system
Directional inputs depend on character direction instead of camera direction, making combos frustrating. Adding an option to switch to camera-based inputs would improve control consistency.
Expand story depth and length
The story feels short and ends abruptly. Expanding the narrative depth and adding more content could provide a more satisfying conclusion and replay value.
Make Lady and Trish playable
Players want Lady and Trish to be playable characters. Adding them would increase character variety and appeal to long-time fans of the series.
Address V's AI bugs
V's AI has bugs, especially on higher difficulties, which can disrupt gameplay. Fixing these issues would improve the experience for players using this character.
Add more post-game content
The game lacks substantial post-game content beyond repeating the final battle. Adding more missions, challenges, or modes would extend replayability.
Improve HDR implementation
HDR cannot be turned off, causing visual issues and requiring a PC restart. Adding an option to disable HDR would resolve this inconvenience.
Enhance dodge mechanics
The dodge system could be improved by simplifying it to a single button. This change would make combat more intuitive and responsive.
Add more enemy variety
While enemy designs are praised, more variety in enemy types and behaviors could keep combat fresh and challenging throughout the game.
Include Mundus in the story
Mundus, a key antagonist from earlier games, is absent. Including him in the story or future DLC could tie the narrative together and satisfy fans.
Expand combo tutorial options
New players struggle with combo timing and variety. Adding more in-depth tutorials or practice modes would help players master the combat system.
Improve dialogue quality
Some dialogue is criticized as overly cringe-worthy. Refining the writing to balance silliness with charm would enhance the narrative experience.
Add more Vergil content
Players want more Vergil-focused content, including additional storylines or gameplay modes. Expanding his role would cater to his popularity among fans.
Optimize Steam Deck performance
While the game runs well on Steam Deck, battery drain is an issue. Optimizing performance for longer play sessions would improve the portable experience.
Add more environmental interaction
Levels lack interactive elements. Adding destructible environments or interactive objects could make exploration more engaging and dynamic.
Include Patty in the story
Patty from the anime is mentioned but not seen. Including her in the story or as a playable character would connect the anime and game universes.
Expand Bloody Palace mode
Bloody Palace is praised but could be expanded with more stages, challenges, or rewards. Enhancing this mode would increase its replay value.

Positive

This game has extremely fun combat, possibly even the best. You will feel sluggish and incapable at the start but it's easy to learn how to juggle enemies in the air and get higher higher skill rating in each fight. There is a pinch of challenge in the mixture as there are new enemy types & bosses introduced throughout. Level design in terms of navigation and exploration is good enough but nothing to write home about, but visually there are plenty of unique and interesting spectacles. My first 60-70 hours going for 100% achievements were a blast and I never felt like I hit a skill ceiling with any of the four characters, but moving on past that was honestly torture. Playing through the game on "Dante Must Die" is made unfun by a mixture of increased enemy health (felt like 2x on every enemy) and a mechanic that allows all enemies to increase their attack and defence by a huge amount on top of the health increase, which will have you in some cases hitting the same single enemy for upwards of 2 minutes without a break, which not only gets boring fast but kills your potential for putting fun combos and kills pacing. Bloody palace is a great mode for improving your skill and just for smacking enemies or bosses around, as well as providing a great challenge. The story itself is decent, but dialogue can be unbearably cringe at times. It's obvious that they don't take themselves too seriously in the writer's room and they clearly want it to be silly, but the charm is easily broken when you go too deep into the silliness. This doesn't ruin the game by any means but you will feel physical pain at some lines. It goes without saying Nero's and Vergil's battle themes are incredible - top tier hype (motivating) music.

  • Sentiments

    • I found the combat in this game to be extremely fun, possibly even the best I've experienced. It starts off challenging but becomes rewarding as you learn to juggle enemies and improve your skill rating.
    • The level design in terms of navigation and exploration is decent, but it doesn't stand out as particularly remarkable. However, the visual spectacles are unique and interesting.
    • My first 60-70 hours aiming for 100% achievements were incredibly enjoyable, and I never felt like I hit a skill ceiling with any of the four characters.
    • Playing through the game on 'Dante Must Die' difficulty became torturous due to increased enemy health and a mechanic that further boosts their attack and defense, making fights tedious and boring.
    • Bloody Palace is a fantastic mode for improving skills, smacking enemies or bosses around, and providing a great challenge.
    • The story is decent, but the dialogue can be unbearably cringe at times, breaking the charm when it leans too heavily into silliness.
    • Nero's and Vergil's battle themes are incredible, with top-tier hype music that motivates and enhances the experience.

Positive

Combat is fun and beautiful. The game incentivises you to perform elaborate combos and it is basically an action game where YOU are the boss and the enemies hear 'boss music' when facing you. Level design gets a little bit repetitive towards the end, but the fights make up for it.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the combat in the game to be fun and visually stunning, which enhances my overall enjoyment.
    • I appreciate how the game encourages me to perform elaborate combos, making the gameplay feel dynamic and rewarding.
    • I feel like the game positions me as the boss, which is empowering and adds a unique twist to the action genre.
    • I enjoy the concept of enemies hearing 'boss music' when facing me, as it adds a layer of excitement and immersion.
    • I notice that the level design becomes somewhat repetitive towards the end, which slightly detracts from the experience.
    • I believe the engaging fights compensate for the repetitive level design, keeping the gameplay enjoyable overall.

Positive

Garry's Mod 5 is a fighting, hack-and-slash game where you play as a single family of Nirvana backup singers and their detachable appendages. Struggling to stop mankind's ultimate foes, Vergin and Urinate, who are peaceful environmentalists attempting to grow a tree in their yard. You play as our intrepid heroes, Dante Inferno, Nero Claudius, and the roman numeral V, as they attempt to run their small business amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Times are tough, but fortunately, Nero is forklift-certified. Along the way, you will encounter testicular torsion, skeletons, famous YouTuber Cr1tikal, the realization that you left the stove on downstairs, and Dark Souls PvP. But with enough tenacity, strength, cunning, and force of will, you will swipe your card and buy this game and tell your friends about it with remarkable accuracy. Because why would you not play Devil May Cry 5? That would be stupid. So sit lie back and clap enjoy buy game run relax and enjoy... Noise Level High 5.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game's premise to be highly creative and absurd, with a unique blend of humor and action, which makes it stand out.
    • I appreciate the inclusion of quirky elements like testicular torsion, skeletons, and famous YouTuber Cr1tikal, which add to the game's charm.
    • I feel the game's narrative, involving a family of Nirvana backup singers and their struggle against environmentalists, is both bizarre and entertaining.
    • I think the characters, such as Dante Inferno, Nero Claudius, and the roman numeral V, are interesting and add depth to the story.
    • I find the reference to Nero being forklift-certified amusing and adds a layer of relatability to the game's setting during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • I believe the game's mention of Dark Souls PvP and the realization of leaving the stove on adds a layer of unpredictability and humor.
    • I feel the review's tone is overwhelmingly positive, encouraging players to buy the game and share it with friends.
    • I think the phrase 'Noise Level High 5' suggests a high-energy, chaotic experience, which could be appealing to some players.
    • I find the review's conclusion, urging players to 'sit lie back and clap enjoy buy game run relax and enjoy,' to be enthusiastic and persuasive.
    • I feel the review's overall sentiment is highly positive, with no negative aspects mentioned, making it a strong endorsement of the game.

I am a 55 year old biker and trucker father, and probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 15 now. My son got this game for from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 12 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he let me borrow his controller. Me and my son then played in turns and I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game has helped build my relationship with my son back to how it was before he lost his mother.

  • Sentiments

    • I was initially concerned about my son spending too much time playing the game, as it made it harder for me to find ways to spend time with him.
    • I decided to create a Steam account and buy the game to try and connect with my son by playing alongside him.
    • I felt lost and confused when I first started playing the game, unsure of what to do.
    • I asked my son for help, and he lent me his controller, which made me feel supported and closer to him.
    • Playing the game together with my son in turns was one of the best experiences I’ve had with him since my wife passed away.
    • The game has brought me and my son closer together, helping us rebuild our relationship after a difficult time.
    • I now spend more time with my son outside the house as well, which has strengthened our bond.
    • The game has helped me reconnect with my son in a way that feels similar to how our relationship was before my wife died.
    • I am grateful for the game because it has given me a way to bond with my son during a challenging period in our lives.
    • I am one of the oldest people playing this game, which makes me feel unique and proud to share this experience with my son.

Negative

why the hell do directional inputs depend on CHARACTER DIRECTION instead of CAMERA DIRECTION?! it's impossible to combo when every time I end up on the opposide side of an enemy my entire control scheme gets inverted. this game couldve been top tier if they had just added an option to switch between those.

  • Sentiments

    • I am extremely frustrated that directional inputs depend on character direction instead of camera direction, as it makes gameplay confusing and unintuitive.
    • I find it impossible to combo effectively when the control scheme inverts every time I end up on the opposite side of an enemy, which ruins the flow of combat.
    • I believe this game could have been top-tier if the developers had included an option to switch between character and camera-based directional inputs.
    • The lack of a toggle for directional input preference feels like a major oversight, which significantly impacts my enjoyment of the game.
    • I feel that the current control scheme is a major flaw that holds the game back from reaching its full potential.

Negative

i really like this game and DMC in general. played dmc 5 on my old pc many yrs ago, wanted to replay it on my new pc which i have for some yrs and also a new monitor with HDR - which im never using because it is such a garbage invention, like ray tracing or mechanical keyboards for gamers. stuff ppl always had, just in another form but smart packaged by big companies and stupid ppl buy stupid stuff because they hate to think. anyway, i wanted to play dmc5 again and right on game start u get blind because HDR turns on by itself and now comes the best part - you CAN'T turn it off. even after closing the game, ur monitor keeps HDR on so u need to restart ur pc. sure, u could mod this crap with special k or a stupid trainer and usually i like to mod my games, but not for such bullshit. easy thumbs down - worst game in the series because of laziness by capcom.

  • Sentiments

    • I really like this game and the DMC series in general, as I have played DMC 5 on my old PC many years ago and wanted to replay it on my new setup.
    • I find HDR to be a garbage invention, similar to ray tracing or mechanical keyboards for gamers, as I believe these are just repackaged versions of existing technologies marketed to people who don't think critically.
    • I am frustrated that HDR turns on automatically at the start of the game, blinding me, and that there is no option to turn it off within the game.
    • I am annoyed that even after closing the game, my monitor remains in HDR mode, forcing me to restart my PC to disable it.
    • I dislike the idea of having to use mods like Special K or trainers to fix such a basic issue, as I feel this is unnecessary and lazy on the part of the developers.
    • I usually enjoy modding my games, but I find it unacceptable to have to mod a game just to address such a fundamental problem.
    • I consider this the worst game in the DMC series due to what I perceive as laziness by Capcom in not addressing these issues.

Negative

The game looks good but i encountered a pretty big bug which made the game totally unplayable it's about the camera rotation, i started the prologue and everything were fine i was able to turn the camera 360 with the mouse just like you do in all games no problem there but as soon i reached the boss room the camera stopped working and it would only turn for like 60 degrees which is totally crippling especially in a fight and made the game totally unplayable, damn that's a shame and i was looking forward on playing the game. :(

  • Sentiments

    • I think the game looks good, which is a positive aspect.
    • I encountered a pretty big bug that made the game totally unplayable, which is very frustrating.
    • The camera rotation issue is a major problem, especially during the boss fight.
    • I was able to turn the camera 360 degrees with the mouse initially, which worked fine.
    • As soon as I reached the boss room, the camera stopped working properly, which is disappointing.
    • The camera only turns for about 60 degrees now, which is crippling in a fight.
    • This issue made the game totally unplayable, which is a significant drawback.
    • I was really looking forward to playing the game, so this bug is a big letdown.
    • The prologue was fine, and everything worked as expected initially.
    • It's a shame because I had high expectations for the game, but this bug ruined the experience.

Negative

The amount of bugs I've experience is unmesurable. From camera lock issues, to me needing to restart the game because the game doesn't read my inputs, and it comes down from me having my G29 inserted in my PC while playing DMC5.. Combat system is kinda raw, considering the locking system being this bad, and placing different interaction buttons on the same keys (MnK) it's not a very good idea, this game miss-inputs a lot, mostly because I click my buttons way tooo fast for this game to register. I'm not going to talk about Microtransactions in a PvE Storyline game. Overall, the game feels very repetitive and boring, from game mechanics to level design. It's really disappointing for me.. PERSONAL OPINION

  • Sentiments

    • I have experienced an unmeasurable amount of bugs, including camera lock issues and the game not reading my inputs, which forced me to restart the game.
    • The combat system feels raw and poorly designed, especially with the bad locking system and misplacement of interaction buttons on the same keys.
    • The game frequently misregisters my inputs, likely because I click buttons too fast for the game to handle.
    • I find the inclusion of microtransactions in a PvE storyline game to be unnecessary and disappointing.
    • The game feels very repetitive and boring, both in terms of game mechanics and level design.
    • Overall, I am very disappointed with the game due to its technical issues and lack of engaging content.

Negative

couldn't get into it. very repetitive. very few colors in the game palette other than black/grey and red/crimson. could never get used to all the keyboard combinations that needed memorizing. lost interest quickly

  • Sentiments

    • I couldn't get into the game, which made it hard for me to enjoy or engage with it.
    • I found the gameplay to be very repetitive, which made it feel monotonous and uninteresting.
    • I noticed that the game palette had very few colors, mostly limited to black, grey, red, and crimson, which felt dull and uninspiring.
    • I struggled to memorize all the keyboard combinations required to play, which made the experience frustrating and inaccessible.
    • I lost interest in the game quickly due to its lack of engagement and repetitive nature.
