DOOM (2016) is a modern reimagining of the iconic first-person shooter franchise, delivering fast-paced, brutal combat and a relentless single-player campaign. Developed by id Software, the game throws players into the boots of the DOOM Marine, tasked with obliterating demon hordes on Mars. With its fluid movement, destructive arsenal, and intense Glory Kill mechanics, DOOM offers a visceral and satisfying gameplay experience. The game also features multiplayer modes and SnapMap, a user-friendly level editor for creating and sharing custom content. Praised for its stunning graphics, adrenaline-pumping soundtrack, and satisfying combat, DOOM boasts an impressive AI Community Rating of 89.27%. Fans love its fast-paced action, calling it a 'masterpiece' with 'beautiful visuals' and 'fun gameplay.' However, some criticize its repetitive gameplay loop, tedious platforming sections, and lackluster multiplayer. Despite these flaws, DOOM remains a must-play for FPS enthusiasts seeking a chaotic, demon-slaying adventure.
As someone with a degree in applied psychology, here's my professional opinion: You angry? Play DOOM to let it all out. You depressed? Play DOOM to feel satisfaction. You shy? Play DOOM to gain confidence. You fine? Play DOOM to feel even better. Games don't cause violence. Go squash in some heads. Go blow off some steam. Have fun.
with the recent reveal of doom the dark ages, it was due time for me to pay the original doom another visit. doom ‘16 is a great classic first-person shooter. it’s not a cover-based shooter, nor does it require the relentless movement demanded by doom eternal. it’s balanced, requiring enough mobility to keep you engaged without becoming overly challenging. doom ‘16 delivers everything you’d expect from a typical shooter while introducing new elements, offering a fresh experience that stands out on its own. there’s vast array of weapons is at your disposal, from plasma rifles to rocket launchers. however, I was constantly gravitated towards the combat shotgun. staggering enemies allows you to execute a glory kill, a brutal physical execution performed by the doom slayer. these glory kills never lose their appeal; there are enough animations for each type of foe to keep them feeling fresh. even after witnessing them after a great while, the satisfaction of these violent executions remains undiminished. as a reboot of the franchise, there are many comparisons to be drawn with the original games. the doom slayer’s new suit follows a new variation of the classic green colour scheme while establishing a distinct, modern identity. the suit is intricately textured and immensely detailed, a visual showcase. from the helmet to every design in the modern suit just feels more iconic. doom ‘16 was a stunning game at its release and continues to impress today. eight years ago, it stood out as one of the most well-optimised games, contrasting sharply with titles like arkham knight. the cherry on top is the game's music score composed by mick gordon. the music truly shines during intense battles, with its explosive rock tracks heightening the excitement. it generates an incredible feeling, amplifying the action and delivering immense joy. a hard recommend.
Doom is by far one of the best modern FPS titles in recent years and a phenomenal return for one of the original classics. Everything about the game is designed for maximum, cathartic carnage. The game goes a long way to making you feel unstoppable from the powerful weapon loadout to Doomguy's penchant for ripping and tearing his enemies in the most gruesome fashion. It also doesn't hurt that the campaign is the central and most effective part of the package. The length is middle-of-the-road but the levels feature a ton of hidden secrets, power-ups, upgrades and other collectables to find. Multiplayer is less graceful but still worth checking out. If you're fan of shooters, Doom 2016 is an absolute must-own. My extended retrospective on Doom can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/uKi2ydNe2Fo?si=zPAXaaOMa8gmnB-U
Doom 2016 is an amazing revival for the series. The new addition of weapons such as the Heavy Assault Rifle and Gauss Cannon made clearing every level even more fun. I also like the swappable mods on each gun; it gives a lot of variety in terms of gameplay. This game has a lot of content, from power-ups to weapon upgrades, as well as challenges. There are also secret collectibles, which I didn't bother to find. On the other hand, performing glory kills on different enemy types is fun when combined with the heavy metal background music.
Despite being shown as a game, it's actually a $20 soundtrack with a free game. Amazing soundtrack; amazing game. I give it a 9/10. Probably one of my favourite games of all time. I wasn't even born when the classic games came out, so this was my first time playing Doom. It's great if you wanna let out some steam (no pun intended) and even better if you're a religious man wanting to do some religious things including (but not limited to): killing any and all demons in sight.
Just here to say that despite "Overwhelmingly positive" this game isn't gonna be everyone's thing. I got 4 hours in and did not find the combat very enjoyable. Maybe it gets better... but I probably won't return to it.
It's a fantastic game. To bad the corpos plastered it with dlc, an AGGRESSIVE eula and 97% of the main menu is adds. Mr Gordon did a great job. The morons in suits ruin everything. How can I get a high paying job ruining things with MY stupidity?
An extremely mediocre singleplayer fps game that overstays it welcome. It felt like I had already experienced the entire game long before I reached the final levels. It is just way too repetitive and easy. And there isnt enough content to justify finishing the game. A few technical complaints: - The movement is horrid, very floaty and unresponsive - Mouse smoothing is enabled by default and can only be disabled by editing a config file - A lot of weapons slow down your mouse sensitivty, this is unacceptable (and there is no way to disable it) - Very buggy
First Doom i played was Doom 3, i remember it as horror - shooter. There is no horror element in this what is kinda sad. Just fast paced shootings and guitar riffs. Not exactly what i imagined. Will work for many. Not for me sadly.
Beautiful graphics, and smooth gameplay. However it just doesn't scratch that itch as a first person shooter. Navigating the map is frustrating, as it can be confusing, but mostly because you are going to be jumping from one platform to the next - over and over again. Combat is basically where enemies spawn in a specific area, and besides the ranged enemies, the rest force you to run around, making sure you don't fall off the cliff while you use the same close range weapon that you have been using from the start - regardless that you have others, because they just aren't effective enough at close range. I suppose this game is just not my type, when I'm more focused on where I am, then what or how I'm going to kill something. There is fun to be had with this game, but I'm not hooked enough to even rely on the story to push me to the end.
