AI Review

God of War is a critically acclaimed action-adventure RPG that takes players on an epic journey through the Norse realms. With an AI Community Rating of 88.75%, this game has captivated players with its gripping story, stunning graphics, and visceral combat. Kratos, now a father, must navigate a harsh world filled with gods and monsters while teaching his son, Atreus, to survive. The game features a seamless over-the-shoulder camera, high-fidelity 4K visuals, and customizable controls, making it a must-play for fans of the genre. Community feedback highlights the amazing story, great characters, and fun combat, though some note repetitive mechanics and camera angle issues. If you're looking for a visually stunning, story-driven experience with intense action, God of War delivers, despite minor flaws.

What the community wishes

Combat system feels repetitive
The combat system relies too much on button mashing and repetitive enemy encounters, which can become monotonous over time. Adding more variety in enemy types and combat mechanics could improve engagement.
Crafting system lacks depth
The crafting and cosmetic systems feel shallow and overly dependent on grinding. Enhancing the crafting system with more meaningful upgrades and customization options would add depth.
Camera angle issues in combat
The fixed camera angle in close-quarters combat makes it difficult to track enemies and attacks, leading to frustrating deaths. A more dynamic or adjustable camera system could improve combat visibility.
Puzzles lack logical clues
Many puzzles are frustrating due to a lack of clear clues or logic, making them feel arbitrary. Providing better hints or more intuitive puzzle designs would enhance the experience.
Repetitive boss and enemy designs
Bosses and enemies often feel like reskins of the same type, reducing the excitement of encounters. Introducing more unique and varied enemy designs would keep combat fresh.
Performance optimization issues
The game suffers from inconsistent performance, with frame drops even on high-end hardware. Better optimization for a wider range of systems would improve accessibility.
Side content feels padded
Completionist content involves excessive padding and repetition, making it feel unrewarding. Streamlining side activities and reducing grind would enhance replayability.
HDR color balance issues
HDR implementation often results in unbalanced or ruined colors, detracting from the visual experience. Fixing HDR color calibration would improve graphical fidelity.
Atreus feels underutilized in combat
Atreus's role in combat is limited to taking aggro, making him feel less impactful. Expanding his abilities and utility in combat would make him a more engaging companion.
Early gameplay feels slow
The beginning of the game is a slog, with repetitive combat and limited story progression. Improving pacing in the early game would help retain player interest.
Linking PSN for single-player is unnecessary
Requiring a PSN account for a single-player game alienates players in unsupported regions. Removing this requirement would improve accessibility and player satisfaction.
UI is overly complicated
The user interface is needlessly complex, making navigation and upgrades cumbersome. Simplifying the UI would enhance the overall user experience.
Lack of meaningful exploration rewards
Exploration often yields repetitive or underwhelming rewards, reducing motivation to explore. Adding more unique and valuable rewards would encourage exploration.
Combat lacks innovation
The combat system follows a formula seen in many modern AAA games, lacking innovation. Introducing new mechanics or twists could make combat more engaging.
Story pacing could be improved
The story feels short and rushed, leaving some narrative threads unresolved. Expanding the story and improving pacing would make it more satisfying.
Repetitive side quests
Side quests often feel repetitive and lack depth, reducing their appeal. Adding more variety and narrative depth to side quests would improve their quality.
Valkyrie fights are overly difficult
Valkyrie fights are disproportionately challenging compared to the rest of the game. Balancing their difficulty would make them more accessible.
Backtracking feels tedious
Backtracking for collectibles and upgrades feels tedious and unrewarding. Reducing the need for backtracking or making it more engaging would improve the experience.
Lack of meaningful RPG elements
RPG elements like enchantments and upgrades feel tacked on and lack depth. Integrating more meaningful RPG mechanics would enhance progression.
Atreus's dialogue feels out of place
Atreus's modern dialogue feels anachronistic in the game's setting. Adjusting his dialogue to better fit the world would improve immersion.

I like that Sony finally got a bit over their "only console" mentality, even if pc gamers have to wait much longer... I'm happy to finally see some of the big games on pc. Since God of War was very well received, my expectations were high, but the game managed to meet most of them. I loved the story, the characters and the worldbuildung. The relation and it's developtment, between Kratos and his son is really well done and you want to know, how everything will continue. In the world you have many interesting places to visit and the world get's bigger with each act (the idea with the snake is really cool). So there is slways something new to see and explore. The gameplay was not perfect for me, but that's probably, because I'm just not a big fan of the combat system. I couldn't get into it, but since I was carring much for the story than the gameplay, it was not really an issue. I really liked it and look foreward to play Ragnarok. [b]9/10

I bought this game to see what the hype was about. Sad to say it didn't hold my attention for much long despite its good premise and excellent mythological background. I got bored of mashing buttons to kill senseless enemies, there are too many of them. The leviathan axe returning once thrown was a cool feature and the puzzles so far are fairly good enough. I don't like the crafting and dependency on cosmetics. The game however shows that people don't always feel ready for arduous tasks that may lie ahead of them, just like Kratos said that he and his son't weren't prepared for the journey they were going to undertake. I wish the release prices of AAA games and hardware was affordable. I have reinstalled the game and will play when i my health is better(I have cold). Will be trying on lower difficulty since i don't like mashing too much and will return for higher difficulty if i feel up to it.

Posting this negative review in protest against Sony's decision to make God of War: Ragnarok (a single player game) unavailable in various regions. Their insistence to region-lock their exclusives not only lowers their potential profits, it also harms their reputation as a company. Be better Sony.

A PSN Account for God of War: Ragnarok, A SINGLEplayer game? No Thanks. Sony allowed a data breach to happen and I wouldn't trust them with my personal information by creating a PSN account. Love that I will not be able to finish the game and sequel thanks to Sony.

If you want a game with good level design and nice little puzzles and collectibles then go for it. If you want a game with good combat then sit this one out. I think this is the worst combat in any respectable game I have played so far. The copy paste enemies (and bosses), weird camera, unresponsive enemies, ranged attackers, stiffness and so much more just make the game extremely unfun to play for me. Really wanted to like it but I expected something more from this. Update: After finishing the story, I can say the gameplay gets a bit better after a couple hours and the side activities stay fairly fun. Though I still have my gripes with the points above, aswell as some story elements. All in all it's an ambitious game that is well made in a lot of regards, but i dont think the game getting better later on excuses the slog that is the beginning. It feels harsh giving a thumbs down since it's not necessarily bad but I cannot recommend this game.

Regarding God of War RagnarΓΆk I don't mind linking a PSN account, as I already had one but requiring it for a singleplayer game, really Sony? Excluding +150 Countries from buying and playing it. There is a better way to play your games on PC without the hustle. Hermen Hulst the people will sure as shit not buy a PS5 to play the sequels of games that are available for PC. Sony stop kicking the people in the face that you pull in, make it a yes, yes or it will be a no, no for gamers.

  • Sentiments

    • I find it frustrating that Sony requires linking a PSN account for a single-player game, as it feels unnecessary and restrictive.
    • I am disappointed that Sony excludes over 150 countries from buying and playing the game, which feels unfair and exclusionary.
    • I believe there are better ways to play games on PC without unnecessary hurdles, and Sony's approach feels inconvenient.
    • I think Hermen Hulst and Sony are making a mistake by assuming people will buy a PS5 to play sequels of games available on PC.
    • I feel that Sony is alienating its audience by imposing restrictions, which could lead to gamers rejecting their platform.
    • I don't mind linking a PSN account since I already have one, but I find the requirement for a single-player game unreasonable.
    • I believe Sony should adopt a more player-friendly approach to avoid pushing gamers away from their platform.

Downvoting all Sony/PlayStation games in my library to encourage my friends to avoid purchasing whatever games they can still purchase until Sony stops georestricting their games just to force PSN account linking. This is a single player game, there is no reason for PSN to be required. Funny thing is, unlike most people, I would have been OK with linking my PSN account to a game that I really enjoyed - if Sony would let me have a PSN account in the first place.
