AI Review

Lethal Company is a thrilling co-op horror game where you and your crew scavenge abandoned moons to meet the Company's profit quota. With an AI Community Rating of 88.74%, players love its hilarious and terrifying moments, making it a must-play with friends. Explore derelict moons, scan creatures for your bestiary, and use tools like shovels and stun grenades to survive. However, some players note issues like repetitive gameplay, poor moon balance, and lack of mid-session joining. Despite these flaws, the game’s unique blend of humor, teamwork, and horror keeps players coming back. If you enjoy action-packed, cooperative adventures with a touch of chaos, Lethal Company is worth a try.

What the community wishes

Add mid-session player joining
Players cannot join mid-session, requiring rehosting every time someone wants to join. This is a highly requested feature that has been ignored for over a year.
Improve server browser functionality
The server browser lacks clear indicators for modded servers and no way to filter them out, leading to wasted time trying to find joinable games.
Address cheating and exploits
Cheating and game-breaking exploits are prevalent. Implementing anti-cheat measures or fixing exploits would improve the game's integrity.
Balance moons and RNG mechanics
Moons are poorly balanced, with some being too strong or unplayable due to RNG. Reducing reliance on RNG and balancing moon difficulty would improve gameplay.
Add native FOV slider
A native FOV slider is needed to accommodate players prone to motion sickness or headaches, as relying on mods for this basic feature is inconvenient.
Increase vanilla player limit
The vanilla player limit of 4 is restrictive. Expanding this limit would enhance the multiplayer experience without relying on mods.
Improve visibility in Halloween update
The Halloween update's reduced visibility inside buildings has made the game unplayable for many. Reverting or adjusting this change is critical.
Add official achievements
Official achievements would add replayability and goals for players, enhancing the overall experience.
Improve communication on Steam
The developer should engage more with the Steam community to address feedback and provide updates, rather than relying on social media or Discord.
Expand moon variety and content
Adding more moons and content would reduce repetitiveness and keep the game fresh for long-term players.
Fix minor bugs and glitches
Minor bugs and glitches can be annoying. Addressing these would improve the overall polish of the game.
Add solo play options
The game lacks viable solo play options, requiring at least one player on the ship. Adding solo-friendly mechanics would broaden its appeal.
Improve tutorial for new players
A proper tutorial is needed to help new players understand the game mechanics, as the current lack of guidance can be frustrating.
Reduce reliance on strict time limits
The strict time limits and increasing quotas can feel punishing. Adjusting these mechanics would make the game more accessible and enjoyable.
Add more creature variety
While the current creatures are iconic, adding more variety would keep encounters fresh and unpredictable.
Optimize lobby availability
The limited number of available lobbies compared to the player count creates frustration. Increasing lobby availability would improve matchmaking.
Add more lore and story elements
Expanding on the game's lore and adding more story elements would deepen the immersion and appeal to players interested in narrative.
Improve item utility and inventory
Many items feel underutilized due to limited inventory space. Balancing item utility and inventory mechanics would enhance gameplay.
Address ambience sound design
The ambience sound design, particularly the thudding noises, can be misleading and frustrating. Adjusting these sounds would improve the atmosphere.
Expand modding support
While modding is popular, official support for mods would enhance the community experience and make modding more accessible.
Welcome to the dark simulation where you cant find the light!
Day 1 I joined a lobby funny dude and guy with a static-mic say hi to me they teach me how to play guy with bad mic gets split up in the dark his horrible screams are heard down the hall his body flies past us me and other dude laugh our laughter turns to screams of horror as big black man with spikes on his body appears he chases us and snaps my neck other guy falls off metal beam and dies "you guys alive?' -radio man we did not meet quota 10/10 Day 2 later on.. I run the game with my buddy and his friend we buy yellow suits and romantic tables instead of flashlights we complain about not being able to see I got back to the ship and watch red dot moves at the speed of light towards buddy's buddy I teleport his body... moments too late I throw his body on the table I remember i left my buddy to die I teleport him back he screams at me 11/10 we did not meet quota

  • Sentiments

    • I found the interactions with other players to be hilarious and engaging, especially when the funny dude and the guy with a static mic taught me how to play.
    • The moment when the guy with the bad mic got split up in the dark and his screams were heard was both terrifying and amusing, creating a memorable experience.
    • The appearance of the big black man with spikes on his body chasing us and snapping my neck was horrifying but added to the thrill of the game.
    • I felt a sense of camaraderie and shared fear when me and the other dude laughed, only for our laughter to turn into screams of horror.
    • The moment when I teleported my buddy's friend's body back to the ship but realized I left my buddy to die was both chaotic and funny.
    • I enjoyed the absurdity of buying yellow suits and romantic tables instead of flashlights, even though it led to us complaining about not being able to see.
    • The red dot moving at the speed of light towards my buddy's friend and the subsequent teleportation of his body added a layer of tension and excitement.
    • I felt a mix of guilt and humor when my buddy screamed at me after I teleported him back, realizing I had left him to die.
    • The overall experience of not meeting the quota but still having a blast with my friends made the game incredibly enjoyable.
    • The game's dark and chaotic atmosphere, combined with the hilarious and terrifying moments, made it a unique and unforgettable experience.

Positive

This game is one of the greatest examples of unscripted horror / comedy I have ever experienced. Each new landing will either result in the most harrowing or hilarious experience you can imagine, featuring you and 2-3 of your friends (or more with mods - which are frequently updated). I have laughed so hard I saw stars, screamed so loud I peaked out my friends' headsets, and seen narrow escapes in the face of impossible odds worthy of a cinematic remake, all in a single hour of play. Yes, this game requires you actually have some friends to play with to get the most out of it - but the core concept of running into dangerous territory with 2-3 idiots who you have to trust with your life is an essential part of the game, and made all the more funnier by the excellent ingame proximity voice chat. There's a damn good reason this game has been so successful and it keeps receiving a new slew of community mods and official updates rather than fizzling out like other one-hit-wonder viral party games. An instant recommendation and classic.

  • Sentiments

    • I witnessed narrow escapes in the face of impossible odds that felt cinematic, adding a sense of excitement and drama to the gameplay.
    • I believe the game requires having friends to play with to fully enjoy it, which might be a limitation for solo players but enhances the experience for groups.
    • I think the core concept of trusting 2-3 friends with your life in dangerous situations is essential and makes the game even funnier, especially with the in-game proximity voice chat.
    • I appreciate that the game continues to receive community mods and official updates, ensuring its longevity and relevance in the gaming community.
    • I consider this game an instant recommendation and a classic, reflecting its high quality and lasting appeal.

Positive

This is such an incredible game, and it's definitely one of the best horror games- or just games overall- that I've played in a while. From the fun gameplay of collecting scraps to trying not to die to a variety of terrifying monsters, this is certainly one of the best co-op games of the year. While this whole game is a masterpiece, there is one feature of this game that stands out from the rest: proximity chat. When playing with friends, the proximity chat can make for a truly golden experience. I've gotten a ton of laughs from hearing things such as the muffled screaming of one friend getting suffocated by a bug, and another's screams being cut off abruptly by a shadow monster. As I'm writing this, I've got almost an entire day total on record on this game- and I only started playing it on Saturday! Love this game, would definitely recommend.

  • Sentiments

    • I find this game to be incredible and one of the best horror games I've played in a while, which makes me feel very positive about it.
    • I think the gameplay is fun, especially collecting scraps and trying to survive against terrifying monsters, which adds to my enjoyment.
    • I believe this is one of the best co-op games of the year, which makes me feel very enthusiastic about recommending it.
    • I consider the proximity chat feature to be a standout element that enhances the experience, especially when playing with friends.
    • I have had a lot of laughs from the proximity chat, such as hearing muffled screams or abrupt cutoffs, which makes the game more enjoyable.
    • I have spent almost an entire day playing this game since starting on Saturday, which shows how much I enjoy it.
    • I love this game and would definitely recommend it to others, which reflects my strong positive sentiment.

Positive

i wish i had friends cause everyone else is making memories with this game and i'm just here playing almost exclusively solo :( but when i do play with friends holy shit this game is PEAK, somehow the horror and comedy elements manage to blend together into a single perfect experience that'll have you pissing yourself both from fear and from uncontrollable laughter

  • Sentiments

    • I feel sad and lonely because I don't have friends to play this game with, and I'm mostly playing solo, which makes me feel left out.
    • I feel envious of others who are making memories with friends while playing this game, which adds to my sense of isolation.
    • When I do play with friends, the game becomes an incredible experience, blending horror and comedy perfectly.
    • The game manages to create a perfect balance between horror and comedy, making it a unique and enjoyable experience.
    • Playing with friends makes the game so intense and fun that it evokes both fear and uncontrollable laughter.
    • The game's ability to make me feel both scared and amused at the same time is truly remarkable.
    • I feel a strong sense of disappointment when I can't share the game's amazing moments with friends.
    • The game's peak moments are so memorable and enjoyable that they stand out as some of the best experiences I've had.

Negative

Halloween update is atrociously bad. Why the hell did you kill /ALL/ visibility, light or not, inside. Game killing idea. 0/10 overall rating over this one update. This one update seriously ruined the entire fucking game and made it unplayable. Garbage. Garbage.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that the Halloween update is extremely bad and poorly executed, which has significantly impacted my enjoyment of the game.
    • I am frustrated and angry that the developers decided to kill all visibility, both in light and dark areas, making the game unplayable.
    • I believe this update has ruined the entire game, making it no longer enjoyable or functional.
    • I am deeply disappointed with the game after this update, as it has turned what was once a good experience into a terrible one.
    • I think the idea behind the update is game-killing and shows a lack of understanding of what players want.
    • I rate this update 0/10, as it has completely destroyed my ability to play and enjoy the game.
    • I find the update to be garbage, and it has made me lose all interest in continuing to play the game.
    • I am extremely unhappy with the developers for implementing such a poorly thought-out change.
    • I feel that the update has made the game unplayable, which is a major letdown for me as a player.
    • I am left with a strong sense of dissatisfaction and frustration due to the negative impact of this update.
Fun game that's held back by some pretty big issues:
1. Lobbies Players cannot join mid session: this means every single time you want someone to join after landing once, you will have to rehost. This has been in the game for well over a year, and with no sign of changing despite being a highly requested feature. 2. Sever Browser Issues There's no way to tell if a server is actually modded or not outside of an optional tag which people don't bother using. There is no way to filter out modded games, and so you end up spending several minutes clicking on games hoping one of them is joinable. 3. Cheaters and Exploits Implementing an anti-cheat isn't a click and a drag, however cheaters are still a very prevalent issue. Almost every match you get into will have at least one or more people using subtle cheats. If there is a game breaking bug, you can almost guarantee someone will abuse it - this was especially bad before the speed bug got patched. 4. Poor Balance and RNG Moons are poorly balanced and almost never receive anything but nerfs, while the strongest moons still exist with no downsides. Many items just don't feel worth bringing due to the limited inventory space and a strict time limit on each moon, a time limit which seems that even the developer is fighting against now. The game relies heavily on RNG in many aspects, sometimes in very negative ways. Moons can be nearly unplayable due to the number of traps present, and the early spawning of a Jester almost always results in you just losing a day. The difficulty of the game is incredibly bipolar where the easier moons can be more difficult than the late-game paid moons.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game fun overall, but it is being held back by several significant issues that detract from the experience.
    • I am frustrated that players cannot join mid-session, requiring constant rehosting, which has been a persistent issue for over a year with no resolution.
    • I am annoyed by the server browser's inability to clearly indicate modded servers, making it time-consuming and frustrating to find joinable games.
    • I am concerned about the prevalence of cheaters in the game, whether through mods or exploiting game-breaking bugs, which ruins the experience.
    • I feel that the game's balance is poor, with moons being nerfed excessively while stronger moons remain overpowered, making many items feel useless.
    • I dislike the heavy reliance on RNG, which often leads to unplayable moons or early game-ending events, creating a negative experience.
    • I am disappointed by the lack of communication from the developer on Steam, forcing players to seek updates on social media or Discord.
    • I appreciate the game's core fun elements, but the issues mentioned significantly hinder its potential.
    • I am frustrated by the lack of progress in addressing highly requested features like mid-session joining, despite community feedback.
    • I find the game's reliance on RNG and poor balance decisions to be a major drawback, overshadowing its enjoyable aspects.

Add A Native FOV Slider i shouldn't have to rely on mods for such a basic function, some basic indie games have it. and worst of all its especially bad for motion sick people and people who are prone to headaches on such low FOV. https://github.com/ayteeate/lethalcompany.fieldofview here is the FOV Mod you're welcome, this game is great but this was an annoyance for me will change review when fixed

  • Sentiments

    • I feel frustrated that I have to rely on mods for a basic function like a native FOV slider, which even some basic indie games include.
    • I find it especially problematic that the low FOV is bad for people prone to motion sickness and headaches, including myself.
    • I appreciate the FOV mod provided in the GitHub link, as it addresses the issue I have with the game.
    • I think the game is great overall, but the lack of a native FOV slider is a significant annoyance for me.
    • I will change my review once the FOV issue is fixed, showing that I am willing to update my opinion based on improvements.

So Many Players, So Few Lobbies Warning(s) for: censored strong language I've seen the player count for this game range from ~8,500 to ~21,000, and still there haven't been enough lobbies when I've played to entirely fill the lobby-search box. Not to mention, when lobbies seem like they'll be worth it, I end up getting barred from connecting to them. So, in actuality, there are fewer lobbies than the meager ones already on display. I'm fed up with feeling stuck with prejudiced c***s and repugnant freaks due to how such a severe lack of alternative lobbies exists. Suffice to say, this problem eclipses any desire I may have otherwise had to really engage with Lethal Company's contents, be it as a player or a writer.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel frustrated and disappointed with the lack of available lobbies despite the game having a significant player count, which makes it difficult to enjoy the game.
    • I am annoyed by the frequent inability to connect to lobbies that seem worth joining, which further limits my options for gameplay.
    • I feel stuck playing with unpleasant or prejudiced players due to the severe lack of alternative lobbies, which negatively impacts my experience.
    • I am fed up with the overall lobby system, as it feels inadequate and poorly managed, overshadowing any potential enjoyment of the game.
    • I have lost interest in engaging with the game's content, whether as a player or a writer, because of these persistent issues.
    • I find the lobby-search box to be insufficiently filled, even with a player count ranging from ~8,500 to ~21,000, which feels underwhelming.
    • I feel that the game's lobby system is a significant problem that overshadows any positive aspects of the game, making it hard to appreciate.
    • I am disappointed that the game's potential is being hindered by technical and matchmaking issues, which detracts from the overall experience.

Negative

Some parts of the game i enjoyed but there are quite a few things which are negative about this game. First, i don't think there is a way to play solo, like you need to have atleast someone on the ship to give you help. So if you're solo then don't consider this game otherwise you will have to join public room with a random (need to use Mic) if you're ok with then that's ok. You do get slowed down alot if you carry a few items, and so like i said you do need 3 guys atleast in order to progress i think and need to get back to the ship before 6pm or apparently start leaving by 3pm, given the quota keeps increasing of course it gets harder and harder. There is no real tutorial, you just start straightaway and you will die for sure. So yeah if you don't like dying then i wouldn't recommend it.

  • Sentiments

    • I enjoyed some parts of the game, which made it somewhat enjoyable for me.
    • I found it frustrating that there is no way to play solo, as you need at least one other person on the ship to help you.
    • I think joining a public room with random players and using a mic is necessary if you want to play, which might not be ideal for everyone.
    • I noticed that carrying items slows you down a lot, which makes the gameplay feel tedious.
    • I believe you need at least three players to progress effectively, which limits the flexibility of the game.
    • I found it stressful that you need to return to the ship before 6pm or start leaving by 3pm, especially as the quota increases and the game gets harder.
    • I was disappointed that there is no real tutorial, and you just start the game without guidance, which leads to inevitable deaths.
    • I think the game is not suitable for players who don’t like dying frequently, as it can be frustrating and discouraging.
