METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE is a high-octane action game that redefines the METAL GEAR franchise with its fast-paced combat and gripping story. Developed by Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames, this title stars Raiden, a half-human, half-cyborg ninja wielding a High Frequency katana to slice through enemies in a beautifully realized HD world. With an AI Community Rating of 87.52%, players praise its thrilling combat, epic cutscenes, and badass soundtrack, calling it a 'masterpiece' of action gaming. However, some note frustrations with the camera controls, steep learning curve for parrying, and repetitive VR missions. The PC version includes all DLCs, customizable armor, and enhanced graphic options, making it a must-play for fans of intense action and cinematic storytelling. If you crave fast-paced gameplay, a compelling narrative, and a challenge, this game delivers—just be prepared for a few rough edges.

What the community wishes

Improve camera movement controls
The camera movement is often frustrating and can hinder gameplay, especially during intense combat sequences. Improving camera controls or adding better auto-adjustment would enhance the overall experience.
Add more diverse VR missions
The VR missions are repetitive and tedious. Adding more variety and unique challenges to these missions would improve replayability and player engagement.
Expand game length and content
The game is relatively short, and some players feel it could benefit from additional levels, story content, or side missions to extend playtime and depth.
Better explain combat mechanics
Some combat mechanics, like parrying and dodging, are not well-explained, leading to a steep learning curve. A more detailed tutorial or in-game hints would help players master these mechanics.
Add higher resolution support
The game lacks native support for higher resolutions like 2560x1600. Adding native support or improving third-party fixes would enhance visual quality for modern systems.
Improve DLC boss variety
The DLCs reuse the same bosses and locations, which feels repetitive. Introducing new bosses or unique environments for DLC content would make it more engaging.
Enhance keyboard and mouse controls
Keyboard and mouse controls are less intuitive compared to a controller. Improving the responsiveness and customization options for keyboard and mouse would benefit PC players.
Add more unique gameplay features
While the cutting mechanic is innovative, some players feel the game could benefit from additional unique gameplay features to diversify the experience.
Address repetitive level design
Some areas, like the Denver section, feel reused and repetitive. Introducing more varied level designs would keep the gameplay fresh and engaging.
Improve boss fight difficulty balance
Some boss fights, like Blade Wolf, have a steep difficulty spike. Better balancing or optional difficulty adjustments would make the game more accessible to all players.
Add more story depth
While the story is engaging, some players feel it could delve deeper into its themes and characters. Expanding the narrative would enhance the emotional impact.
Include more diverse enemy types
The game could benefit from a wider variety of enemy types to keep combat encounters fresh and challenging throughout the game.
Improve replayability features
Adding more incentives for replayability, such as unlockable content, alternate endings, or new game modes, would encourage players to revisit the game.
Optimize for modern hardware
The game could benefit from optimization for modern hardware, including better performance and support for higher frame rates and resolutions.
Add more customization options
Players would appreciate more customization options for Raiden, such as different skins, weapons, or abilities, to personalize their gameplay experience.
Improve cutscene pacing
Some cutscenes feel overly long or disrupt the flow of gameplay. Better pacing or the option to skip certain scenes would improve the overall experience.
Add more environmental variety
The game could benefit from more diverse environments, as some areas feel repetitive. Introducing unique settings would enhance immersion.
Include more accessibility options
Adding accessibility options, such as difficulty sliders or assist modes, would make the game more inclusive for players of all skill levels.
Expand on character backstories
Some characters, like Jetstream Sam, have intriguing backstories that could be explored further. Adding more depth to these characters would enrich the narrative.
Add more post-game content
Players would appreciate more post-game content, such as additional challenges, boss rushes, or story expansions, to extend the game's lifespan.

STANDING HERE, I REALIZE YOU WERE JUST LIKE ME TRYING TO MAKE HISTORY! BUT WHO IS TO JUDGE RIGHT FROM WRONG? WHEN OUR GUARD IS DOWN I THINK WE'LL BOTH AGREE! THAT VIOLENCE BREEDS VIOLENCE BUT IN THE END IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY. I'VE CARVED MY OWN PATH YOU FOLLOWED YOUR WRATH! THE WORLD HAS TURNED AND SO MANY HAVE BURNED. YET NO ONE IS TO BLAME YET STARING ACROSS THIS BARREN, WASTED LAND I FEEL A NEW LIFE WILL BE BORN IN THE BLOOD STAINED SAND.

This game is a classic for a reason, the story is something, and the combat can be quite fun. The problem I find with it is that the camera is constantly fighting you, and the game seems to really like throwing all of the most annoying enemies at you at the same time. The game has quite a few flying enemies, and it is clearly not made with that kind of thing in mind, which causes all kinds of friction. A good game most of the time, but when there are plenty of points where it feels like smashing your head against a brick wall.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game to be a classic for a reason, as it has a compelling story and enjoyable combat.
    • I feel that the camera in the game is constantly fighting against me, which makes the experience frustrating.
    • I think the game tends to throw the most annoying enemies at you all at once, which can be overwhelming.
    • I notice that the game has many flying enemies, and it feels like the mechanics aren't well-suited for handling them.
    • I believe the game is good most of the time, but there are moments where it feels extremely frustrating.
    • I experience friction in the gameplay due to the mismatch between the game's design and the flying enemies.
    • I feel like smashing my head against a brick wall during certain points of the game because of its difficulty spikes.

Negative

Great game but awful PC port. Had to use a 3rd party program to get the game working in fullscreen and it still has a bad stuttering issue. Framerate is permanently locked to 48fps, no option to disable VSync, awful camera controls that are somehow even worse than the Ps3 version, and an incredible amount of bugs make this one of the worst PC ports of an otherwise fantastic game I have ever played. How they managed to fuck up the PC port this badly, I will never understand. Buy the 360 version and use backwards compatibility or emulate the PS3 version on RPCS3 if you want to play this game. Do NOT buy the Steam version.

  • Sentiments

    • I think the game itself is fantastic, which is a positive aspect despite the issues with the PC port.
    • I find the PC port to be awful due to numerous technical issues, making it one of the worst PC ports I have ever experienced.
    • I had to use a third-party program to get the game working in fullscreen, which was frustrating and inconvenient.
    • I experienced a persistent stuttering issue in the game, which significantly impacted my enjoyment.
    • I noticed the framerate is permanently locked to 48fps, which feels limiting and poorly optimized.
    • I found the lack of an option to disable VSync to be a major drawback, as it restricts customization.
    • I think the camera controls are awful and even worse than the PS3 version, which is disappointing.
    • I encountered an incredible amount of bugs, which further worsened my experience with the PC port.
    • I recommend buying the 360 version or emulating the PS3 version instead of purchasing the Steam version.
    • I am baffled by how poorly the PC port was handled, as it significantly detracts from an otherwise great game.

Negative

After 4 hours of gameplay it still feels extremely clunky. The camera is kinda ass but what really annoys me is that there is no designated parry button and the attack+movement feels incredibly inconsistent to the point where i could not get it down in the slightest in 4 hours of playing. Maybe it gets better but to me thats too much investment for too little. Presentation slaps tho

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that the gameplay is extremely clunky, which makes it difficult to enjoy the game.
    • I find the camera controls to be poorly designed and frustrating to use.
    • I am annoyed by the lack of a designated parry button, which makes combat feel unintuitive.
    • I feel that the attack and movement mechanics are inconsistent, making it hard to master even after 4 hours of gameplay.
    • I think the game requires too much time investment for the level of enjoyment it provides.
    • I appreciate the presentation of the game, as it stands out positively compared to other aspects.

Negative
