What the community wishes

Steam version conflicts with games
The Steam version of OBS conflicts with running Steam games on another device, causing OBS to shut down. Steam should differentiate free apps like OBS from paid games to allow simultaneous use.
Steam updates force unnecessary updates
The Steam version forces updates, which can be inconvenient for occasional users. The standalone version from the official website is recommended for those who prefer to skip updates.
Dual AMD GPU encoding issues
OBS sometimes fails to detect the correct encoder on systems with dual AMD GPUs, requiring manual settings adjustment. This issue does not occur with other GPU combinations.
Multi-streaming feature missing
OBS lacks native multi-streaming support without relying on sketchy plugins. Adding this feature would enhance its functionality for streamers.
Confusing UI for beginners
The interface can be confusing for new users. While it becomes manageable with practice, simplifying the UI or adding beginner-friendly tutorials would improve accessibility.
Crashes after new updates
OBS occasionally crashes after new releases, requiring users to check for stability issues. More rigorous testing before updates could reduce this problem.
FPS drops during streaming
OBS can cause frame drops during streaming, especially on lower-end systems. Optimizing resource usage would improve performance for users with less powerful hardware.
Recording quality issues post-update
After a recent update, OBS recorded videos at low frame rates and caused FPS drops. This issue persisted despite creating new scenes, indicating a potential bug.
Steam uninstall affects standalone version
Uninstalling the Steam version of OBS can also uninstall the standalone version. This behavior should be fixed to prevent unintended removal of the standalone installation.
Start streaming button placement
The 'start streaming' button is placed too close to the 'start recording' button, leading to accidental presses. Relocating or differentiating the buttons would reduce user errors.
Lack of native video editing
OBS lacks native video editing features, requiring users to rely on external software. Adding basic editing tools would enhance its functionality for content creators.
Steam version conflicts with non-Steam OBS
Steam sometimes misinterprets the standalone OBS installation as the Steam version, forcing users to exit the program. This conflict should be resolved to avoid disruptions.
Hardware encoding detection issues
OBS occasionally fails to detect the correct hardware encoder on specific GPU configurations, requiring manual adjustments. Improving automatic detection would streamline the setup process.
Resource usage optimization needed
OBS can be resource-intensive, causing performance issues on lower-end systems. Optimizing resource usage would make it more accessible to a wider range of users.
Beginner-friendly tutorials needed
New users find OBS challenging to learn. Adding beginner-friendly tutorials or a guided setup process would improve the onboarding experience.
Scene creation issues post-update
After an update, OBS failed to record selected games properly, even after creating new scenes. This suggests a bug that needs addressing to ensure consistent performance.
Steam version uninstall behavior
Uninstalling the Steam version of OBS can also remove the standalone version. This behavior should be corrected to prevent unintended uninstallation.
Streaming button placement confusing
The 'start streaming' button is placed too close to the 'start recording' button, leading to accidental presses. Relocating or differentiating the buttons would reduce user errors.
Lack of native multi-streaming
OBS lacks native multi-streaming support, requiring users to rely on third-party plugins. Adding this feature would enhance its functionality for streamers.
Crashes after new releases
OBS occasionally crashes after new updates, requiring users to check for stability issues. More rigorous testing before updates could reduce this problem.

I am giving this a thumbs up because OBS is undoubtedly the best streaming software available, but there's one major issue with the Steam version that makes me recommend against it. Due to the way Steam works, you cannot run OBS simultaneously with a Steam game on another device. This has been a problem for me, as I often use my laptop to stream while using my Steam Deck to play Steam games through a capture card. This means that when OBS is launched through Steam, the game on the other device will not run simultaneously with it, and OBS (along with the entirety of Steam) will shut down when the game is launched. Steam needs to differentiate free applications like OBS from paid games and allow them to run together. Again, since this is not OBS's fault, I am recommending the product, and it works fine through Steam if you don't intend on running Steam games on a separate device like I do. But I would strongly recommend downloading the program outside of Steam instead so that you never encounter this issue regardless. I had to outright uninstall the Steam version since Steam occasionally interpreted my regular installation as being the Steam one, forcing me to exit the program despite it being outside of Steam. UPDATE: Uninstalling it through Steam just now caused my non-Steam version to be uninstalled as well... Seriously, just get it off of OBS's website instead.

  • Sentiments

    • I am giving this a thumbs up because OBS is undoubtedly the best streaming software available, which shows my strong positive sentiment toward the software itself.
    • There is one major issue with the Steam version that makes me recommend against it, which reflects my frustration with the Steam-specific limitations.
    • Due to the way Steam works, you cannot run OBS simultaneously with a Steam game on another device, which is a significant inconvenience for my streaming setup.
    • This has been a problem for me, as I often use my laptop to stream while using my Steam Deck to play Steam games through a capture card, highlighting my dissatisfaction with the compatibility issue.
    • Steam needs to differentiate free applications like OBS from paid games and allow them to run together, which is a suggestion I strongly believe would improve the user experience.
    • Again, since this is not OBS's fault, I am recommending the product, which shows my fairness in separating the software's quality from the platform's limitations.
    • I would strongly recommend downloading the program outside of Steam instead so that you never encounter this issue regardless, which is my advice to avoid the problem entirely.
    • I had to outright uninstall the Steam version since Steam occasionally interpreted my regular installation as being the Steam one, forcing me to exit the program despite it being outside of Steam, which was a frustrating experience.
    • Uninstalling it through Steam just now caused my non-Steam version to be uninstalled as well, which added to my frustration and dissatisfaction with the Steam version.
    • Seriously, just get it off of OBS's website instead, which is my final recommendation to avoid all these issues.

Negative

Don't know why, but with the recent December 7th update, OBS just doesn't record the selected game anymore, don't know if its a problem on my end or what. Edit: Fixed the issue it was something to do with the original scene and it just didn't wanna work, made a new scene it worked for about five or seven videos and just took a turn for the worst, and now OBS just drops my FPS and when it doesn't the recorded video looks like it's at ten frames a second which is weird since it was literally working perfectly fine the day before so I honestly have no clue why or how this happened

  • Sentiments

    • I am frustrated because, after the December 7th update, OBS no longer records the selected game, and I am unsure if the issue is on my end.
    • I am relieved that I managed to fix the issue temporarily by creating a new scene, but it only worked for a few videos before problems resurfaced.
    • I am confused and disappointed because OBS started dropping my FPS and recording videos at what looks like 10 frames per second, even though it was working perfectly fine the day before.
    • I am puzzled as to why OBS suddenly stopped working properly, as there was no clear reason for the performance drop and recording issues.
    • I am concerned about the inconsistency in OBS's performance, as it worked briefly after creating a new scene but then deteriorated again.

Negative

the app doesnt even tell you if its not recording, i lost an 3 hours footage because i pressed record but since it got updated my options reseted and it didnt even said or gave me a warning that my screen is not being recorded, its still good but holy shit fix it to atleast tell you if your screen isnt being recorded and not just recording nothing in background

  • Sentiments

    • I am extremely frustrated because the app did not notify me when it was not recording, causing me to lose 3 hours of footage.
    • I feel disappointed that pressing the record button did not actually start the recording due to an update resetting my options.
    • I am upset that the app did not provide any warning or indication that my screen was not being recorded.
    • I find it unacceptable that the app silently failed to record without any notification or feedback.
    • Despite the issues, I still think the app is good overall, but it needs significant improvements.
    • I strongly believe the app should at least notify users when the screen is not being recorded.
    • I am annoyed that the app was recording nothing in the background without my knowledge.
    • I feel let down by the lack of transparency in the app's functionality after the update.
    • I am concerned about the reliability of the app after experiencing this issue.
    • I hope the developers fix this issue to prevent others from losing important footage.

Negative

Let me be clear: THIS IS EXCELLENT SOFTWARE. I am not recommending it on Steam, because you should never install this through Steam. I cannot think of any possible reason to do so. You can easily obtain this software directly from the developers at their website. If you are on any major Linux-based OS you don't even need to do that, as OBS is available from the repos of just about every distro, and some even come with it installed by default. TL;DR: Go get it from the devs website, or your package manager on Linux-based operating systems.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the software to be excellent and highly recommend it, but I strongly advise against installing it through Steam.
    • I believe there is no valid reason to install this software through Steam, as it is unnecessary.
    • I suggest obtaining the software directly from the developers' website, as it is the best way to get it.
    • I note that on Linux-based operating systems, the software is easily accessible through package managers or even pre-installed.
    • I emphasize that OBS is widely available in the repositories of most Linux distributions, making it convenient for users.
    • I recommend avoiding Steam for this software, as it is not the optimal method of installation.
    • I highlight the ease of obtaining the software on Linux-based systems, which adds to its appeal.
    • I express that the software is so good that it should be sourced directly from the developers or package managers.
    • I mention that some Linux distributions come with the software pre-installed, which is a significant advantage.
    • I conclude by summarizing that the best way to get the software is through the developers' website or Linux package managers.

Negative

Unfortunately, I can't write a good review for this app. It is very complicated, so people who aren't good at technology (like me) have trouble using it Also, when it records, it has a high chance of making the framerate EXTREMELY low in the footage, effectively ruining any moments you captured. Maybe it's just me and one of my friends who both CONVENIENTLY have the same glitch, but I doubt it. Maybe once it's fixed I can enjoy it, but for now, I'm finding something else.

  • Sentiments

    • I hope that once the app is fixed, I might be able to enjoy using it.
    • I suspect that the framerate issue might not just be affecting me and my friend, but potentially others as well.
    • I am unable to write a good review for this app due to its current issues.
    • I find the app very complicated to use, especially for someone like me who isn't good with technology.
    • The app has a high chance of making the framerate extremely low during recording, which ruins the captured moments.
    • I am considering finding an alternative app until the issues are fixed.

completely phase out my graphics card? make virtual cam unusable after it worked perfectly fine for months? This is why people pick streamlabs over ur piece of shit opensource joke. I've met special needs students who are better at coding than this grownass man putting out this overhyped dogwash of a shovel-ware download

  • Sentiments

    • I feel extremely frustrated and disappointed because the software completely phased out my graphics card, making it unusable after it worked perfectly fine for months.
    • I am angry that the virtual camera became unusable due to the software update, which feels like a major regression in functionality.
    • I believe this is why people prefer Streamlabs over this software, as it seems unreliable and poorly maintained.
    • I am deeply dissatisfied with the quality of the software, which I consider to be overhyped and poorly coded.
    • I feel insulted by the comparison of the software's coding quality to that of special needs students, which I find offensive and dismissive.
    • I am critical of the developer's competence, as I perceive the software to be a low-quality, shovel-ware product.
    • I am frustrated that the software, which is open-source, is being described as a joke, undermining its credibility and value.
    • I feel let down by the software's performance, as it has failed to meet my expectations after months of reliable use.
    • I am disappointed that the software, which I once trusted, has now become a source of frustration and inconvenience.
    • I am critical of the software's reputation, as it is being compared unfavorably to other more reliable alternatives.
