So, I've bought this game a two days ago and never had THE TIME to actually play it. Well, I played it and ... I never thought I would cry so much. I wish I had played it earlier. I lost my 3-year-old at the begging of this year, and grieve hasn't gone yet. I've been feeling very depressed and this game gave my heart such a warm hug that I can't explain... This is truly an art form. Loved the story even more. I watched the credits to the last person, and I'd like to say to each of them a very warm THANK YOU. You have no idea how this helped me. Saving up to buy the second one.
Thank you Moon Studios. I know you probably won't see this review but I write it regardless. Your game has inspired me to be a better parent to my child. I can never thank you enough for creating such a beautiful game. This has changed my life.

it's a fun game. i enjoyed like 95% of it the other 5% was the chase scenes. there are no checkpoints. 1 mistake and you start from the beginning. they aren't easy either. i hated every single one. other than that, very fun game. satiates my metroidvania needs. gonna go play the sequel now.
Amazing, beautiful, touching and heart worming. As the world seems to be going to s*it in real time in front of my eyes - this game was a breath of fresh air and much needed respite. No politics. No ideology. Just the message of love. I do recommend! As for game mechanics, combat system etc. - all good for me. I've finished it on Normal diff in 28 hours. Buy this game - don't you dare to pirate it! Devs like Moon Studios should be cherished and rewarded for their efforts.
I'd hate to thumbsdown this. The game starts out so well, you have this emotional story and you're ready for adventure...and then the gameplay starts. Your character is a pixel or something so small its difficult to maneuver. Spikes literally blend into map, sometimes you can't tell where they are. It doesn't help that they do bazillion amount of damage. As a coup de grace, games savesystem can easily "brick" your game if you save at a wrong spot. At the end of the day, I'm just not having fun with this. This is more of a precise and punishing platformer than exploration metroidvania. If I'd know it would be like this I'd skip this game. Not that its a bad game per se! Graphics are gorgeous, atmosphere is good. There's lots of neat powerups, lots of stuff to pickup. Not my cup of tea though, I drink coffee.
The default controls for keyboard are poorly thought, awkward, and literally painful to use. There is no in-game way to change the controls, making this game less friendly than your average mid-2000s flash game. There is a possibility to edit manually a config file to change these controls... If this config file exists and is recognized by the game, which visibly isn't the case on Linux. Maybe someday i'll get a controller or have the patience to configure an external key remapper. Until then, I'll uninstall this game and look for more user-friendly ones.
Pretty atmosphere, nice visuals, but most of the time i have the feeling to fight the controls more than the levels themselves. Got rather frustrated and quit halfway through. The "story" is not really there imho. I had no fun with the platforming, even though i loved Rayman Legends for example. Maybe this type of game is not for me.
Great visuals and story, but the Ginso Tree difficulty spike is kind of bullshit. The difficulty spike is not telegraphed in advance, and it comes way after 2 hours of gameplay so I can't even refund the game. As a working adult I don't have hours and hours to grind on a game trying to git gud. If you're a pro gamer who thought this was a breeze then good for you! But I want to be, you know, entertained by a game, not spend my off hours grinding some more. I played the game on Easy mode and it was still bullshit - if they give us an easy mode it should actually be EASY imo. The masochists can play on hard mode and brag about it - where's the option for us casuals?
This game is beautiful and I will (probably) finish it, but where a game like Hollow Knight challenged me and made me feel proud to overcome a difficult part of the game, Ori and the Blind Forest just makes me feel relieved I don't have to deal with it anymore once I get past it. It's often not clear to me when something is locked because I'm missing an ability or if I'm just not getting the hang of the controls, and the controls themselves feel sluggish and like I don't have good control over the character. Still a stunning game. Beautiful soundtrack and visuals. Some of the mechanics are pretty fun. Would have recommended if actually playing it didn't feel like such a chore.
