What the community wishes

Improve chase scene checkpoints
Chase scenes lack checkpoints, forcing players to restart from the beginning after a single mistake. Adding checkpoints would reduce frustration and improve the overall experience.
Enhance combat system depth
Combat is overly simplistic, relying on rapid clicking and dodging. Adding more varied mechanics or strategic elements would make combat more engaging.
Refine save system usability
The soul link save system is tedious and can lead to frustration when repeating sections. A more intuitive or forgiving save system would improve player experience.
Clarify exploration progression cues
It's often unclear when players are ready to explore new areas. Better visual or contextual cues would help guide progression more effectively.
Adjust difficulty spikes
The Ginso Tree difficulty spike is abrupt and not well-telegraphed. Smoother difficulty progression or better preparation for challenging sections would help.
Improve map zoom functionality
The map cannot be fully zoomed out, making it hard to get an overview. Adding full zoom-out functionality would aid navigation and exploration.
Revise redundant abilities
Some abilities feel redundant or underutilized. Streamlining or enhancing these abilities would make gameplay more cohesive and rewarding.
Add more combat variety
Combat is repetitive, with attacks feeling automated. Introducing more varied combat mechanics or enemy types would increase engagement.
Improve visual clarity for traps
Traps and hazards often blend into the environment, making them hard to spot. Better visual distinction would reduce frustration and improve gameplay.
Optimize controls for keyboard users
Default keyboard controls are awkward and painful to use. Adding in-game key remapping and better default bindings would improve accessibility.
Balance One Life difficulty
The One Life difficulty is excessively punishing. Adjusting it to be more forgiving or adding intermediate challenges would make it more accessible.
Enhance early learning curve
The early game has a steep learning curve, forcing players to master new skills immediately. A gentler introduction to mechanics would help new players.
Improve time-sequenced event design
Time-sequenced events are unforgiving and poorly designed, with autosaves locking players into difficult sections. Better checkpointing or design would reduce frustration.
Add more varied environments
Areas feel segregated and linear, reducing the sense of exploration. More interconnected and varied environments would enhance the metroidvania experience.
Clarify ability usage in puzzles
Some puzzles require unintuitive ability usage, leading to confusion. Better hints or clearer design would make puzzles more enjoyable.
Improve character visibility
Ori is often hard to see due to lighting or size. Enhancing character visibility would improve gameplay clarity and reduce frustration.
Add more story depth
The story, while heartwarming, feels shallow. Adding more narrative depth or character development would enhance emotional engagement.
Refine platforming controls
Controls can feel sluggish and unresponsive, making platforming frustrating. Improving responsiveness and precision would enhance the platforming experience.
Balance endgame difficulty
The endgame becomes too easy with all abilities unlocked. Adjusting difficulty to maintain challenge would improve the late-game experience.
Add more enemy variety
Enemy types are limited, making combat repetitive. Introducing more diverse enemies would keep combat fresh and engaging.

Positive

So, I've bought this game a two days ago and never had THE TIME to actually play it. Well, I played it and ... I never thought I would cry so much. I wish I had played it earlier. I lost my 3-year-old at the begging of this year, and grieve hasn't gone yet. I've been feeling very depressed and this game gave my heart such a warm hug that I can't explain... This is truly an art form. Loved the story even more. I watched the credits to the last person, and I'd like to say to each of them a very warm THANK YOU. You have no idea how this helped me. Saving up to buy the second one.

Amazing, beautiful, touching and heart worming. As the world seems to be going to s*it in real time in front of my eyes - this game was a breath of fresh air and much needed respite. No politics. No ideology. Just the message of love. I do recommend! As for game mechanics, combat system etc. - all good for me. I've finished it on Normal diff in 28 hours. Buy this game - don't you dare to pirate it! Devs like Moon Studios should be cherished and rewarded for their efforts.

  • Sentiments

    • I found the game mechanics and combat system to be good and enjoyable.

Negative

I'd hate to thumbsdown this. The game starts out so well, you have this emotional story and you're ready for adventure...and then the gameplay starts. Your character is a pixel or something so small its difficult to maneuver. Spikes literally blend into map, sometimes you can't tell where they are. It doesn't help that they do bazillion amount of damage. As a coup de grace, games savesystem can easily "brick" your game if you save at a wrong spot. At the end of the day, I'm just not having fun with this. This is more of a precise and punishing platformer than exploration metroidvania. If I'd know it would be like this I'd skip this game. Not that its a bad game per se! Graphics are gorgeous, atmosphere is good. There's lots of neat powerups, lots of stuff to pickup. Not my cup of tea though, I drink coffee.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel the game starts out very well with an emotional story and a sense of adventure, which is a strong positive aspect.
    • I find the gameplay frustrating because the character is so small that it's difficult to maneuver, which negatively impacts my experience.
    • I am annoyed that spikes blend into the map, making it hard to see them and avoid damage, which adds to the frustration.
    • I feel the spikes do an excessive amount of damage, which makes the game feel unfairly punishing.
    • I am disappointed that the save system can 'brick' the game if I save at the wrong spot, which feels like a major design flaw.
    • I am not having fun with the game overall, as it feels more like a punishing platformer than an exploration-focused metroidvania.
    • I think the graphics are gorgeous, which is a positive aspect that enhances the game's visual appeal.
    • I appreciate the good atmosphere in the game, which adds to its immersive quality.
    • I like the neat powerups and the variety of items to pick up, which adds some enjoyment to the gameplay.
    • I feel the game is not my cup of tea, as I prefer coffee, which is a neutral way of saying it doesn't align with my personal preferences.

Negative

The default controls for keyboard are poorly thought, awkward, and literally painful to use. There is no in-game way to change the controls, making this game less friendly than your average mid-2000s flash game. There is a possibility to edit manually a config file to change these controls... If this config file exists and is recognized by the game, which visibly isn't the case on Linux. Maybe someday i'll get a controller or have the patience to configure an external key remapper. Until then, I'll uninstall this game and look for more user-friendly ones.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the default keyboard controls to be poorly thought out, awkward, and even painful to use, which significantly impacts my experience with the game.
    • I am frustrated that there is no in-game option to change the controls, making the game less user-friendly compared to even mid-2000s flash games.
    • I am disappointed that the possibility to manually edit a config file to change controls does not seem to work on Linux, as the file is not recognized by the game.
    • I feel that the lack of control customization options is a major drawback, forcing me to consider using a controller or an external key remapper.
    • I am considering uninstalling the game due to its lack of user-friendliness and will look for more accessible alternatives.

Negative

Pretty atmosphere, nice visuals, but most of the time i have the feeling to fight the controls more than the levels themselves. Got rather frustrated and quit halfway through. The "story" is not really there imho. I had no fun with the platforming, even though i loved Rayman Legends for example. Maybe this type of game is not for me.

  • Sentiments

    • I found the atmosphere of the game to be pretty and visually appealing.
    • I often felt like I was fighting the controls more than the actual levels, which was frustrating.
    • I got so frustrated that I quit playing the game halfway through.
    • I felt that the story was lacking and not really present in the game.
    • I did not have fun with the platforming mechanics in this game.
    • I loved Rayman Legends, but this game did not provide a similar enjoyable experience for me.
    • I think this type of game might not be suited to my preferences.

Negative

Great visuals and story, but the Ginso Tree difficulty spike is kind of bullshit. The difficulty spike is not telegraphed in advance, and it comes way after 2 hours of gameplay so I can't even refund the game. As a working adult I don't have hours and hours to grind on a game trying to git gud. If you're a pro gamer who thought this was a breeze then good for you! But I want to be, you know, entertained by a game, not spend my off hours grinding some more. I played the game on Easy mode and it was still bullshit - if they give us an easy mode it should actually be EASY imo. The masochists can play on hard mode and brag about it - where's the option for us casuals?

  • Sentiments

    • I appreciate the great visuals and story in the game, which are very well done and engaging.
    • I find the Ginso Tree difficulty spike to be unfair and poorly telegraphed, which feels frustrating and poorly designed.
    • I am disappointed that the difficulty spike occurs after 2 hours of gameplay, making it impossible to refund the game.
    • As a working adult, I feel frustrated that I don’t have the time to grind and improve my skills in the game.
    • I want to be entertained by a game, not spend my limited free time grinding and struggling with difficulty.
    • I played the game on Easy mode, but it still felt too difficult, which is disappointing for someone looking for a casual experience.
    • I believe that Easy mode should actually be easy, catering to casual players like myself.
    • I think the game should offer better options for casual players, rather than focusing only on hardcore or masochistic gamers.

Negative

This game is beautiful and I will (probably) finish it, but where a game like Hollow Knight challenged me and made me feel proud to overcome a difficult part of the game, Ori and the Blind Forest just makes me feel relieved I don't have to deal with it anymore once I get past it. It's often not clear to me when something is locked because I'm missing an ability or if I'm just not getting the hang of the controls, and the controls themselves feel sluggish and like I don't have good control over the character. Still a stunning game. Beautiful soundtrack and visuals. Some of the mechanics are pretty fun. Would have recommended if actually playing it didn't feel like such a chore.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game beautiful and visually stunning, which enhances my overall experience.
    • I feel that the game lacks the sense of challenge and accomplishment that I experienced in games like Hollow Knight.
    • I often feel relieved rather than proud when I overcome difficult parts of the game.
    • I find it unclear whether I am missing an ability or just struggling with the controls, which frustrates me.
    • I feel that the controls are sluggish and that I don't have good control over the character.
    • I appreciate the beautiful soundtrack, which adds to the game's atmosphere.
    • I find some of the game mechanics to be pretty fun and enjoyable.
    • I feel that actually playing the game can feel like a chore, which diminishes my enjoyment.
    • I would have recommended the game if not for the issues I encountered with gameplay.
