AI Review

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a critically acclaimed action RPG shooter with heavy rogue-like elements, boasting an impressive AI Community Rating of 87.33%. Players take on the role of Isaac, a young boy escaping his mother’s twisted faith, battling through randomly generated dungeons filled with grotesque enemies, powerful bosses, and bizarre treasures. With over 500 hours of gameplay, 450+ items, and 4 billion seeded runs, the game offers endless replayability and variety. The hand-drawn pixel art, dynamic lighting, and all-new soundtrack by Ridiculon create a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere. Community feedback highlights its fun, challenging gameplay and mod support, though some criticize its grind-heavy completionist requirements and occasional bugs. If you love rogue-likes with deep mechanics and dark themes, this is a must-play.

What the community wishes

Add essential QoL mods by default
Essential mods like External Item Descriptions, Enhanced Boss Bars, and Time Machine should be integrated into the base game to reduce reliance on external tools and improve the new player experience.
Fix achievement reset bug
A bug causing achievements to reset, including lost timestamps, should be fixed to preserve player progress and satisfaction.
Improve online mode performance
Online mode suffers from input lag and poor performance, making it unplayable. Improvements are needed to make multiplayer viable.
Balance item weight system
The item weight system often results in runs being ruined by bad items. A rebalance is needed to ensure fair and enjoyable gameplay.
Fix Delirium boss teleportation
Delirium's teleportation mechanic is unfair, especially for characters like The Lost. Adjustments are needed to prevent instant deaths.
Improve enemy invulnerability mechanics
Many enemies have invulnerability phases that feel tedious and unfair. Rework these mechanics to make combat more engaging.
Enhance stats menu visibility
The stats menu is unclear and hard to interpret. A more user-friendly interface should be added, especially for base game players.
Rework wall-sticking enemy hitboxes
Enemies that stick to walls have poorly designed hitboxes, making them frustrating to fight. Improve their collision detection.
Address Lazarus character balance
Lazarus is underpowered compared to other characters. Buffs or reworks are needed to make him more viable and interesting.
Reduce grind for completionists
The game requires excessive grinding for completion, which can feel tedious. Streamline progression to reduce unnecessary repetition.
Fix minor bugs and glitches
Minor bugs and glitches, while not game-breaking, can detract from the experience. A bug-fixing update would improve overall polish.
Improve visual clarity in pixel art
While the pixel art is detailed, some elements are hard to distinguish. Enhance visual clarity to improve gameplay readability.
Add more meaningful story content
The story is impactful but minimal. Expand on lore and narrative elements to deepen player engagement.
Rework final boss mechanics
The final boss's mechanics, such as excessive damage sponging and teleportation, feel unfair. Adjust these to make the fight more balanced.
Improve item synergy consistency
Some item synergies are underwhelming or inconsistent. Ensure all item combinations provide meaningful and balanced effects.
Add more accessibility options
Accessibility options, such as customizable controls and difficulty settings, would make the game more inclusive for a wider audience.
Expand multiplayer features
Multiplayer is a welcome addition but lacks polish. Expand features and improve stability to enhance the co-op experience.
Rework pill system randomness
The pill system can feel punishing with consecutive bad pills. Adjust the randomness to make it more fair and strategic.
Add more visual feedback for hits
Visual feedback for hits and damage is sometimes unclear. Improve effects to make combat feel more responsive and satisfying.
Optimize performance for lower-end PCs
The game can struggle on lower-end systems. Optimize performance to ensure smooth gameplay across a wider range of hardware.

Positive

Peak roguelike dungeon crawler here, but it's a total slop without essential mods. If you're new to Isaac, do yourself a favor and get the External Item Descriptions mod (seriously, it's a lifesaver), maybe the Enhanced Boss Bars (i recommend it), and definitely the Time Machine mod for a smoother experience without wasting 10 minutes on every interactable . Trust, these mods don't take away from the game at all. What they do is save you from is endless confusion and constant alt+tabbing to check the wiki for every little thing. You're not missing out on anything by using them, except maybe hours upon hours of needless frustration.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that this game is a peak roguelike dungeon crawler, which is a strong positive sentiment about its core gameplay and genre.
    • I believe the game is a total slop without essential mods, which is a negative sentiment about the base game experience.
    • I strongly recommend the External Item Descriptions mod as a lifesaver, which is a positive sentiment about the mod's utility.
    • I suggest the Enhanced Boss Bars mod, which is a neutral sentiment about its usefulness but not as critical as other mods.
    • I highly recommend the Time Machine mod for a smoother experience, which is a positive sentiment about its impact on gameplay.
    • I think these mods save players from endless confusion, which is a positive sentiment about their ability to improve the experience.
    • I feel that using mods prevents constant alt+tabbing to check the wiki, which is a positive sentiment about reducing frustration.
    • I believe that using mods doesn't take away from the game, which is a neutral sentiment about their impact on the core experience.
    • I think players are not missing out on anything by using mods, which is a neutral sentiment about their necessity.
    • I feel that without mods, players may face hours of needless frustration, which is a negative sentiment about the base game's design.

Positive

> Start an Eden streak > get to streak 3 the things are looking good > start next run with metronome and shit stats > use metronome to get some help with clearing rooms > gets damocles > dies 10 Edmund McMillens out of 10

  • Sentiments

    • I feel a sense of accomplishment and optimism when starting an Eden streak and reaching streak 3, as things are looking good.
    • I feel frustrated and challenged when starting the next run with metronome and poor stats, as it makes the game harder.
    • I feel hopeful and strategic when using metronome to get help with clearing rooms, as it shows adaptability.
    • I feel a mix of excitement and dread when getting Damocles, as it is a high-risk, high-reward item.
    • I feel disappointed and defeated when dying after getting Damocles, as it ends the run abruptly.
    • I appreciate the humor and irony in rating the experience as '10 Edmund McMillens out of 10,' as it captures the chaotic nature of the game.

Positive

Humongous improvement over the original, my only gripe is with the bug that causes your achievements to reset, it's a minor thing that doesn't impact gameplay in any way and I know that you can recover them, but I care about the timestamps that were unfortunately lost.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that the game is a humongous improvement over the original, which makes me very satisfied with the overall progress and quality.
    • I have a gripe with the bug that causes achievements to reset, which is frustrating even though it doesn't impact gameplay.
    • I acknowledge that the bug is minor and doesn't affect gameplay, which makes it less of a significant issue.
    • I know that the achievements can be recovered, which provides some reassurance despite the inconvenience.
    • I care about the lost timestamps, which makes the bug more personally frustrating for me.

Positive

I Was A Lil Naked Fella, Running Round Shooting Turds - Then I Got "Good" And Stole Numerous Heart Transplants, Clapped A Leg From My Own Mother And Then Shot My Green Tears At Her Heart While Being The Size Of The Empire State Building. Yippee?

  • Sentiments

    • I felt a sense of absurdity and chaos while playing as a small naked character running around and shooting turds, which was both bizarre and entertaining.
    • I experienced a mix of confusion and amusement when I 'got good' and started stealing heart transplants, which felt surreal and unexpected.
    • I felt a strange sense of accomplishment when I clapped a leg from my own mother, which was both shocking and oddly satisfying.
    • I was overwhelmed by the absurdity of shooting my green tears at my mother's heart, which felt both disturbing and oddly cathartic.
    • I felt a sense of awe and power when I became the size of the Empire State Building, which was thrilling and surreal.
    • The overall experience was a mix of confusion, absurdity, and dark humor, leaving me unsure whether to laugh or be disturbed.
    • The game's bizarre and chaotic nature made it memorable, but also left me questioning the logic and purpose behind the actions.
    • The phrase 'Yippee?' at the end perfectly captured my mixed feelings of amusement and bewilderment about the entire experience.

God, help me.
Better with DLC. Better with QOL mods. Better with friends.

Being able to unlock 17 different characters, 717 different items, an alternate path, every floor theme having two-three variants, hidden secrets everywhere . Not to mention, that each character has a tainted variant, where it exacerbates their unique identity to new levels. With 102 bosses and 20 mini-bosses this combat heavy game will test your abilities, and memory.

This game is truly unique. I will never get the same experience as beating 'Mother' with the Lost. I was shaking. Fucking shaking, for nearly 20 minutes. No other game has ever made me feel despair, or relief to this level. Not any of the souls games. THIS GAME. Starring a naked five year old.
• I appreciate the game's challenge, with 102 bosses and 20 mini-bosses, which tests my abilities and memory in combat-heavy scenarios.
    • I consider the game truly unique, as it provides an experience unlike any other, especially when overcoming difficult challenges like beating 'Mother' with the Lost.
    • I felt an overwhelming sense of despair and relief after completing a particularly challenging part of the game, which no other game has made me feel to this extent.

    • I find the game's premise intriguing, as it stars a naked five-year-old, which adds to its unique and unconventional nature.
    • I acknowledge that the game requires significant time and effort to fully explore its vast content and hidden secrets.

Make the online mode playable and I'll give my recommendation back. I'd rather have this game stayed as it was, solo only. Updated: TRULY a lot of replay value. - What's the best run you had so far? - Always the next one. 10/10 lots of replay value.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel frustrated with the online update, describing it as terrible and comparing it to something unpleasant.
    • I experience input lag as a host, which is frustrating and negatively impacts my gameplay experience.
    • I tried the online mode and now I do not recommend this game due to its poor performance.
    • I strongly suggest making the online mode playable to regain my recommendation for the game.
    • I would prefer the game to have remained solo-only, as the online mode has degraded my experience.
    • I find the game to have a lot of replay value, which is a significant positive aspect.
    • I am always excited for the next run, indicating a high level of engagement and enjoyment with the game.
    • I rate the game 10/10 for its replay value, showing strong approval and satisfaction.

Negative

60% of your runs will be a snore fest because you kill all enemies in less than a second and the other 40% will also be a snore fest but with shitty items where you cant kill a spider without getting hit or missing boss rush because of how little damage you are doing also a lot of rooms are almost impossible if you dont have enough speed or need tas level movement and like 30% of the enemies have the exact same mechanic that being making you wait for 10 seconds for them to become killable and then they become invulnerable for another 10 seconds for them to appear and in that process they can spawn on top of you and hit you so thats good game design also enemies that stick to the wall have the worst hurtboxes in any game i ever played also lazarus is straight up ass and theres no reason to play him especially when compairing him to other more interesting characters the game has (interesting meaning they are just insanely op like azazel but atleast thats something instead of just being isaac but without d6 and with a slight dmg up) also the stats menu is horrible and you dont get to see your stats in a useful understandable way until you buy the dlcs the game is just boring but by the time i realized i already had like 60 hours so i guess that makes it good right i just hope it gets better with the dlcs

  • Sentiments

    • I find 60% of the runs to be boring because enemies are killed too quickly, making the gameplay unengaging.
    • The other 40% of runs are frustrating due to poor item drops, making it difficult to progress or defeat bosses.
    • Many rooms feel nearly impossible without high speed or precise movement, which adds to the frustration.
    • Around 30% of enemies have repetitive mechanics, requiring long waits to become vulnerable, which feels like poor game design.
    • Enemies that stick to walls have terrible hitboxes, making combat feel unfair and poorly designed.
    • Lazarus is a weak and uninteresting character compared to others, offering no compelling reason to play him.
    • The stats menu is poorly designed and only becomes useful after purchasing DLCs, which feels like a cash grab.
    • Despite finding the game boring, I have already invested 60 hours into it, which makes me question its value.
    • I hope the game improves with the DLCs, but my current experience has been disappointing.

Negative

Fun, but the game makes you want to commit not live anymore every time you die after making some good progress, one of the hardest Rougelikes out there, if you want to play, this review is only a warning, but don't let me of all people change your mind.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game to be fun and enjoyable, which makes it a positive experience overall.
    • I feel extremely frustrated and disheartened every time I die after making significant progress in the game.
    • I consider this game to be one of the hardest Rougelikes out there, which adds to its challenge and intensity.
    • I want to warn others about the difficulty of the game, as it can be overwhelming for some players.
    • I believe that despite the challenges, players should not let my opinion deter them from trying the game.

Negative

This game is absolutely terrible, also Edmund McMillen told me to tell YOU ALL to NOT play "The Binding Of Isaac" so listen to him not me, also i hope his family get beaten to death with hydraulic presses and thrown into a woodchipper 11/10

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that the game is absolutely terrible, and this sentiment is strongly negative.
    • I am conveying a message from Edmund McMillen, who advised everyone not to play 'The Binding Of Isaac', which feels like a neutral statement but carries a negative undertone.
    • I express a highly negative and violent sentiment towards Edmund McMillen's family, which is deeply disturbing and hateful.
    • Despite the negative tone, I give the game an 11/10 rating, which feels sarcastic and contradictory, suggesting a positive sentiment in a mocking way.
