Tomb Raider is a gripping action-adventure game that delves into the origin story of Lara Croft, transforming her from a young woman into a hardened survivor. With an AI Community Rating of 89.06%, this game has captivated players with its intense narrative, stunning graphics, and immersive gameplay. Explore a mysterious island filled with environmental puzzles, visceral combat, and hidden tombs. Players praise the game for its engaging story, fun puzzles, and breathtaking visuals, calling it a must-play for adventure fans. However, some note issues like repetitive set pieces, easy combat, and minor bugs. Despite these, Tomb Raider’s thrilling exploration and emotional depth make it a standout title. Whether you're a fan of action-packed adventures or rich storytelling, Tomb Raider offers an unforgettable experience.

What the community wishes

Improve tomb exploration depth
Tombs are optional and lack depth, offering only XP rewards. Puzzles are too simple, and tombs should provide more meaningful content or unique rewards to enhance exploration and replayability.
Fix UI issues for ultrawide monitors
UI prompts appear off-screen on ultrawide monitors, causing inconvenience. This issue should be addressed to ensure compatibility with modern hardware setups.
Address climbing plane glitch
A glitch occurs when climbing the plane in the first tomb, causing Lara to slide off. Restarting the game is required to proceed. This should be fixed for smoother gameplay.
Enhance hunting mechanics
Hunting animals only provides XP, with no impact on survival mechanics like health or food. Hunting should be more integrated into the gameplay for realism and depth.
Add meaningful DLC content
Current DLCs are minor additions that don’t expand the main story. Players desire high-duration story-related DLCs to enhance the overall experience and provide more narrative depth.
Improve weapon pickup logic
Lara cannot pick up enemy weapons during stealth sections, forcing reliance on arrows. This feels artificial and breaks immersion. Allowing weapon pickups would improve realism.
Fix game-breaking crash glitch
A glitch causes the game to crash during a burning building sequence if the player dies. This should be fixed to prevent progression blockers.
Add dual pistols for iconic feel
Lara’s iconic dual pistols are teased but never used. Adding them as a weapon option would satisfy fans and enhance the connection to the classic Tomb Raider games.
Improve collectible integration
Collectibles feel like a chore during the main story. Better integration, such as providing more context or rewards, would make them more engaging and meaningful.
Address camera shake annoyance
Excessive camera shake during trembling or ground-shaking events is distracting and uncomfortable. Reducing or allowing players to disable this feature would improve the experience.
Enhance enemy AI and difficulty
Combat is too easy even on hard difficulty, with enemies lacking depth. Improving AI and difficulty would make combat more engaging and challenging.
Fix multiplayer achievement grind
Multiplayer achievements are a tedious grind, and the mode is dead. Revising achievement requirements or removing multiplayer-related achievements would improve the experience.
Improve Lara’s injury realism
Lara’s injuries are excessive, yet she performs acrobatics without issue. Adding more realistic injury mechanics or toning down the damage would improve immersion.
Expand RPG elements
RPG elements like perks and weapon upgrades are minimal. Expanding these systems would add depth and customization to gameplay.
Fix terrain interaction visibility
Interactive terrain elements stand out unnaturally, reducing immersion. Making them blend more naturally into the environment would improve visual consistency.
Improve aiming and controls
Aiming on controllers is imprecise, and controls can feel clunky. Refining aiming mechanics and control responsiveness would enhance gameplay.
Add lock-on targeting
The lack of lock-on targeting makes combat frustrating, especially with multiple enemies. Adding this feature would improve combat fluidity.
Reduce repetitive set pieces
Set pieces like explosions and slides become repetitive. Diversifying these sequences would keep the gameplay fresh and engaging.
Improve story pacing
The story feels repetitive, with little progress made in most sections. Tightening the pacing and adding more meaningful plot developments would improve narrative engagement.
Fix achievement missability
Some achievements are missable, requiring a full replay to unlock. Adding post-game opportunities to complete these would reduce frustration.

Positive

This game grabs you by the feels and doesn’t let go. The story is solid, the characters are likable, and Lara? She’s an absolute sweetheart you just want to protect at all costs. Watching her suffer is borderline heartbreaking — but it makes her journey all the more rewarding. Exploring the semi-open world is a blast — whether you’re raiding tombs, hunting for treasure, or just taking in the gorgeous scenery (before something inevitably tries to kill you). A great mix of action, adventure, and emotional storytelling. Lara Croft’s pain is our gain — though we’d prefer a little less of it for her.

    • I enjoy exploring the semi-open world, as it offers a variety of activities like raiding tombs and hunting for treasure, making the gameplay dynamic and fun.
    • I appreciate the gorgeous scenery in the game, which adds to the immersive experience, even though it is often interrupted by danger.
    • I think the mix of action, adventure, and emotional storytelling is well-balanced, creating a compelling and enjoyable gameplay experience.
    • I feel that Lara Croft’s pain is our gain, as it adds to the emotional stakes and makes the story more impactful, though I wish she suffered less.

Positive

If you've never played Tomb Raider this reboot is the best starting point. The story is about Lara's first adventure and how she was hardened into the Tomb raider everyone knows and overall it does a great job at starting Lara's Adventures. The combat although simple does a few things to keep things fresh but it mostly stands out when there a lot of enemies attacking you the same time specially during shanty town and the final sequence. Even though the exploration is a lot more limited than the classic games the set sequences keep things fun and interesting. It's overall a great start to Lara's new Trilogy

  • Sentiments

    • I believe this reboot is the best starting point for anyone who has never played Tomb Raider before.
    • I think the story does a great job of showing Lara's first adventure and how she became the Tomb Raider everyone knows.
    • I feel the combat, although simple, keeps things fresh, especially when there are many enemies attacking at once.
    • I find the combat particularly standout during the shanty town and final sequence sections of the game.
    • I notice that the exploration is more limited compared to the classic games, which might be a downside for some players.
    • I appreciate that the set sequences in the game keep the exploration fun and interesting despite its limitations.
    • I consider this game to be a great start to Lara's new trilogy, setting a strong foundation for future installments.

Positive

Negative

As a person playing this in 2024 with 0 nostalgia for the Lara Croft games Everything is just exceedingly... average. Nothing in the game excites me. Set pieces get boring after you run from explosions for the 4th time or slide down for the 20th time, even on hard the shooting sections are exceedingly easy and the upgrades feel pointless because I'm already just headshotting them. Exploring is boring because every location looks very similar and finding stuff just rewards you with xp (none of the upgrades really improve my enjoyment). Tombs are optional and literally just give you xp instead of anything exciting and the puzzles inside them are stupid easy. (game is literally called tomb raiders and the tombs are the weakest part) I could forgive all that if the story was interesting but it just isn't, characters are one note and motivations are basic with no depth. Honestly 90% of the game you don't even make progress through the story its just "We need to find a way to get out of here" -> something goes wrong -> fix it/find someone -> repeat over and over There isn't really anything TERRIBLE about this game, it's just exceedingly average and there are much more interesting games story wise/mechanically out there that are much more worth your time.

  • Sentiments

    • I find everything in the game to be exceedingly average, with nothing that excites me or stands out as particularly engaging.
    • The set pieces, such as running from explosions or sliding down slopes, become repetitive and boring after a few instances, even on hard difficulty.
    • The shooting sections are too easy, and the upgrades feel pointless because I can already headshot enemies without them.
    • Exploring the game world is uninteresting because every location looks very similar, and finding items only rewards XP, which doesn't enhance my enjoyment.
    • The tombs, which are optional, are disappointing as they only provide XP and contain puzzles that are too easy, making them the weakest part of the game.
    • The story is uninteresting, with one-note characters and basic motivations that lack depth, making it hard to stay engaged.
    • The gameplay loop feels repetitive, with most of the game revolving around finding a way out, something going wrong, and then fixing it, which gets old quickly.
    • While there isn't anything terrible about the game, it is exceedingly average and doesn't stand out compared to other games with better stories or mechanics.
    • The game doesn't offer anything particularly exciting or memorable, making it feel like a missed opportunity to stand out in the genre.
    • There are many other games available that are more interesting both story-wise and mechanically, making this game less worth my time.

Negative

Objective 5.5/10 Subjective 3/10 Disappointment. A game that pretends to be survival, but in reality it is not. The only way to survive is to kill everyone before they kill you. Hunting animals only provides experience points, rather than food and health regeneration. There are also no medicines in the game. Lara runs around in a T-shirt while they throw dynamite and Molotov cocktails at her. Many chests only contain experience points, which in itself is strange. The tombs only contain scraps and treasure maps revealing the locations of the collectibles . Artifacts are lying everywhere and there are even fakes from China . Weapon upgrades must be purchased at the bonfire, and those found must also be purchased. Purchased from whom? From a fire demon? Lara's movements are clumsy, the aiming on the pad is terrible, and there is no way to lock on targets. We receive two guns at the very end of the game, and only for five seconds, when we have no experience in aiming two guns at once (stupid!). Terrain elements intended for interaction stand out intrusively, which looks unnatural. In addition, Lara received special instincts, as if the players were an idiots and couldn't notice a rock that had a specially different color and texture, so we could see it without any problems. If it weren't for the plot, which also limps at some points, the game would be terrible, but it is only a huge disappointment.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel disappointed because the game pretends to be a survival game but fails to deliver on that premise, as the only survival strategy is to kill others before they kill you.
    • I find it frustrating that hunting animals only provides experience points instead of food or health regeneration, which feels unrealistic and poorly designed.
    • I am annoyed that many chests and tombs only contain experience points or scraps, which feels unrewarding and lacks meaningful progression.
    • I think the inclusion of fake artifacts, like those from China, is unnecessary and detracts from the game's immersion.
    • I find the weapon upgrade system confusing and poorly explained, as it requires purchasing upgrades from a bonfire, which feels illogical.
    • I feel frustrated with Lara's clumsy movements and the terrible aiming mechanics, which make combat feel unpolished and frustrating.
    • I am disappointed that terrain elements intended for interaction stand out too much, breaking immersion and making the game feel unnatural.
    • I think the inclusion of Lara's special instincts is unnecessary and patronizing, as it assumes players cannot notice obvious environmental cues.
    • I feel the plot is the only redeeming aspect of the game, though even it has moments where it falters and feels weak.
    • Overall, I find the game to be a huge disappointment, as it fails to meet expectations in almost every aspect except for the plot.

Negative

Guys what if we rebooted that cool platforming franchise with puzzles, amazing OST, bosses, esoteric archeologic locales and turned it into a cover based third person shooter where you kill slavs on an island and you're playing a whining incomptent spoiled useless girl ?

  • Sentiments

    • I feel disappointed that a beloved platforming franchise with puzzles, amazing OST, and esoteric archeologic locales was rebooted into a cover-based third-person shooter.
    • I am frustrated that the reboot shifted the game's genre from a platformer to a shooter, which feels like a drastic and unwelcome change.
    • I find it disappointing that the new game focuses on killing slavs on an island, which feels like a poor thematic choice.
    • I am unhappy with the protagonist being portrayed as a whining, incompetent, spoiled, and useless girl, which detracts from the experience.
    • I miss the original franchise's cool platforming mechanics, which were a key part of its charm.
    • I feel nostalgic for the amazing OST and bosses from the original franchise, which added depth and excitement to the gameplay.
    • I appreciate the esoteric archeologic locales from the original franchise, which made the game feel unique and immersive.
    • I am neutral about the idea of rebooting a franchise, as it can sometimes lead to innovative changes, though not in this case.

Negative

Some of the worst camera angles in the history of video gaming, that make me hate the game more than feel bored of its linear narrative. Play this if you like cinematic camera angles that otherwise would drive you crazy while playing, and/or if you're into action-narrative games. P.S. Someone in production had the bright idea to have the camera "shake" whenever the protagonist trembled from cold or whenever the ground shook. Where I live, I've experienced earthquakes of considerable magnitude that made the world around me shake less than this.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the camera angles in this game to be some of the worst in the history of video gaming, which makes me hate the game rather than just feel bored by its linear narrative.
    • The linear narrative of the game feels boring to me, which adds to my dislike of the overall experience.
    • I would recommend this game to players who enjoy cinematic camera angles, even though such angles would typically drive most players crazy during gameplay.
    • If you are into action-narrative games, you might find this game worth playing despite its flaws.
    • I am frustrated by the decision to have the camera shake whenever the protagonist trembles from cold or when the ground shakes, as it feels excessive and distracting.
    • The camera shaking effect in this game is so intense that it feels more exaggerated than real-life earthquakes I have experienced.

Negative

Nah. - Very bad Tomb Raider game. - Just another third person shooter with RPG elements. - Cash grab in form of a DLC platform. - QTEs EVERYWHERE - Health regeneration. - Insulting easy difficulty. - Scripted everything. - Slapped on very bad multiplayer to milk even more money.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that this is a very bad Tomb Raider game, lacking the qualities that make the series unique.
    • I think the game is just another generic third-person shooter with RPG elements, which feels uninspired.
    • I believe the game is a cash grab, designed primarily as a platform for selling DLCs rather than offering a complete experience.
    • I find the overuse of Quick Time Events (QTEs) to be frustrating and excessive, detracting from the gameplay.
    • I dislike the inclusion of health regeneration, as it makes the game feel less challenging and immersive.
    • I feel the difficulty level is insultingly easy, which diminishes the sense of accomplishment.
    • I think the game relies too heavily on scripted events, making it feel less dynamic and engaging.
    • I find the multiplayer mode to be poorly implemented, seemingly added only to extract more money from players.
