AI Review

WEBFISHING is a relaxing multiplayer fishing game that combines casual gameplay with social interaction. With an impressive AI Community Rating of 89.52%, this indie gem lets you fish, chat, and make friends in a cozy online environment. Catch nearly 100 unique creatures, from tiny snails to massive sharks, while upgrading your gear and customizing your character with fun cosmetics. The game shines in its social features, allowing players to hang out, make fish puns, and even play mini-games like guitar or chalk drawing. However, some players report issues like chat system delays, hacker exploits, and lack of cloud saves, which can disrupt the experience. Despite these challenges, the community praises WEBFISHING for its chill vibe, cute visuals, and fun multiplayer moments. If you're looking for a laid-back game to enjoy with friends or meet new people, WEBFISHING is worth a try—just be aware of its current technical flaws.

What the community wishes

Fix chat system delays and errors
The chat system is broken, with messages showing up late or not at all. Players must leave and rejoin to fix it, but this breaks it for others. A reliable chat system is essential for a game marketed as a chatroom with fishing.
Address hacker 'PONDS CLOSED' exploits
A hacker named 'PONDS CLOSED' is stealing player info, injecting trojans, and crashing lobbies. Immediate action is needed to patch vulnerabilities and ban malicious users to restore trust and safety.
Improve lobby security and privacy
Players report strangers brute-forcing into private lobbies, crashing games, and doxxing users. Stronger lobby security, such as unlisted lobbies and request-to-join features, is critical to protect players.
Add cloud save functionality
Lack of cloud saving has caused players to lose 50+ hours of progress after crashes. Implementing cloud saves would prevent data loss and improve user experience.
Expand end-game content
After reaching max level, players find little to do besides repetitive challenges. Adding more end-game activities, such as new quests or infinite leveling, would extend replayability.
Add mouse-free camera controls
Players with arthritis struggle with the mouse-heavy controls for camera movement and fishing. Adding keybind options for camera movement and fishing interactions would make the game more accessible.
Enhance fishing mechanics
The fishing mechanic feels monotonous over time, especially when completing the journal. Adding more depth or variety to fishing would make it more engaging.
Fix save file corruption issues
Hackers are corrupting save files, forcing players to restart. Addressing this exploit and ensuring save file integrity is crucial for player retention.
Add more LGBTQ+ inclusivity
The game's tags include many sexualities but charge 9999 coins for 'straight.' This feels exclusionary. Making all tags free and inclusive would improve the game's community appeal.
Improve multiplayer stability
Multiplayer is plagued by bots and hackers, making it isolating. Fixing these issues and improving server stability would restore the game's social appeal.
Add more customization options
Players love the customization but want more options, such as additional clothing or character features. Expanding customization would enhance player creativity and engagement.
Implement cross-device syncing
Players want syncing between devices/PCs to continue progress seamlessly. Adding cross-device save syncing would improve convenience and accessibility.
Add more offline activities
While fishing is relaxing, players want more offline activities like metal detecting or mini-games to diversify gameplay and keep it fresh.
Fix achievement difficulty imbalance
Steam achievements are overly reliant on luck, making them frustrating. Balancing achievement requirements to be skill-based would improve player satisfaction.
Add more social features
Players enjoy the social aspect but want more features, like group activities or shared goals, to enhance multiplayer interactions.
Address doxxing risks in lobbies
Players report doxxing incidents in lobbies, revealing personal information like nearest airports. Strengthening privacy measures is essential to protect players.
Add more fish species
Players love the fishing but want more variety in fish species. Adding rare or unique fish would increase the game's depth and replayability.
Improve Steam Deck compatibility
While playable on Steam Deck, the game requires custom controls and workarounds. Official support and optimized controls would enhance the experience for Deck users.
Add more cosmetic rewards
Players enjoy cosmetic customization but want more rewards tied to achievements or challenges. Expanding cosmetic options would incentivize progression.
Address lobby title manipulation
Hackers are changing public lobby titles and causing disruptions. Preventing unauthorized changes to lobby settings would improve the multiplayer experience.

In-depth analysis of most impactful community reviews

Positive

I think there was a curator whose words were a perfect description of this game. Paraphrased, "Old-school chatrooms disguised as a furry fishing game". And I'm all for low-poly multiplayer Animal Crossing. The game is so relaxing and therapeutic, that after a long stressful week of university, I was able to rewind and slow down. While fishing solo is good, bringing your friends along just makes the experience 10x better. 10/10, would fish again. Considering its cheap, I suggest you play it and experience the therapeutic experience of fishing before the big bad red game company comes and takes this down, before re-releasing it into some NSO-based laggy rendition of this game.

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game to be incredibly relaxing and therapeutic, especially after a long and stressful week at university.
    • I appreciate the low-poly multiplayer Animal Crossing vibe, which adds to the charm of the game.
    • I think fishing solo is enjoyable, but bringing friends along makes the experience 10 times better.
    • I agree with the curator's description of the game as 'old-school chatrooms disguised as a furry fishing game,' which I find fitting and amusing.
    • I believe the game is worth playing, especially considering its low price, and I highly recommend it.
    • I am concerned that a big game company might take the game down and re-release it in a laggy, less enjoyable version.
    • I rate the game 10/10 and would definitely play it again, as it provides a unique and enjoyable experience.

sewerslvt fishing. The Grilled Fish's Ballad bye2 fishing. LEARNING2FISH60 best game ever, i have no friends P.S
this game feels like a group therapy session, which you don't want to attend, but somehow you're getting drawn by the feeling that maybe, you're not entirely alone, that crying is absolutely fine, and that ageing is, unfortunately, innevitable. You forget everything you ever worried or stressed about, and you can't believe that people can actually be nice, or, at least pretend to be nice, there's no such thing as anger, greed, lust, rage or hypocrisy. I can't remember someone made me a gift irl, the second I joined absolutely random server, I got greeted and some very kind person was gifting me wine bottles, it was very fun and this is so far the best time I ever spent I absolutely hate people, each and everyone, I hate that everyone tries to talk to me, I hate socialising, I don't want to be a part of human race, but everytime I enter this game, I regret about thinking like that. This game is actually healing me, like no fuсkіng shіt, this game cost me less than a fuсkіng therapy, pills, drugs and all that shіt. Of course, I'll never overstep myself and become someone I would dream to become. This is a true escapism experience. As long as this game exists - I exist.
I am enjoying myself. I love webfishing.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that this game is like a group therapy session, where I am drawn to the idea that I might not be entirely alone, and it’s okay to cry and accept aging.
    • I forget all my worries and stresses while playing this game, and I am surprised by the kindness of people, even if it might be pretend.
    • I received a gift from a kind stranger in the game, which made me feel valued and appreciated, something I rarely experience in real life.
    • I hate people and socializing in real life, but this game makes me regret those feelings and helps me heal emotionally.
    • This game is more effective and affordable than therapy, pills, or drugs, and it provides a true escapism experience.
    • I feel that as long as this game exists, I exist, which shows how deeply connected I am to the experience it provides.
    • I hate the human race and don’t want to be a part of it, but this game challenges those feelings and makes me reconsider.
    • I believe I will never become the person I dream to be, but this game helps me cope with that reality.
    • I am enjoying myself and love the concept of webfishing, which brings me joy and relaxation.
    • This game feels like a safe space where emotions like anger, greed, lust, rage, and hypocrisy don’t exist, and I can just be myself.

Positive

I honestly really love the game and want to continue playing; have put in many hours already. I'd easily give the game a 10/10. There is however a really pressing issue. So it does not really matter whether I host a private lobby or even one that requires someone to be a friend much less enter a code, but people have been brute forcing their way into the server that I do not know or could not possibly have the code, complete strangers. These people have caused the game to crash through mailbox messages, caused the game to crash as soon as they joined (I know the game crashes as soon as certain people join cause it's the same person by the name of Air Traffic Control), and even somehow obtained personal doxxing information to then proceed to post said information in the in game chat. I do want to be clear as this is not a fault directly to the devs as this is something caused by unsavory people and think y'all are doing awesome work. The game itself is exquisite and I want to continue playing it with people I know, but currently is not in a place to safely do so due to the issues that could potentially lead to some other very serious harmful consequences. **EDIT** After the changes via Patch 1.11 with the options to unlist and 'request to join' lobbies, those pretty much fixed all the qualms noted before. Big support out to the dev for this as I understand they are the sole dev of this great game <3

Let any fish Who meets my gaze Learn the true meaning of fear For I am the harbinger of death The ban of creatures subaqueous My rod is true and unwavering As I cast into the aquatic abyss A cat, scorned by this uncaring earth Finds solace in the sea My only friend The worm upon my hook Wriggling, writhing Struggling to surmount The mortal pointlessness That permeates this barren world I am alone I am empty And yet I fish

  • Sentiments

    • I feel a sense of power and dominance as I cast my rod into the aquatic abyss, embodying the role of a harbinger of death to the fish I encounter.
    • I experience a deep connection with the worm on my hook, seeing it as my only friend in an otherwise barren and uncaring world.
    • I feel a profound sense of isolation and emptiness, as I find myself alone in my pursuit of fishing.
    • I find solace in the sea, as it provides a refuge from the scorn and indifference of the world above.
    • I am struck by the mortal pointlessness that permeates the world, which adds a layer of existential dread to my fishing experience.
    • I feel a sense of determination and unwavering focus as I cast my rod, undeterred by the emptiness around me.
    • I am haunted by the struggle of the worm on my hook, which mirrors my own struggle against the futility of existence.
    • I find a strange comfort in the act of fishing, despite the overwhelming sense of loneliness and despair that surrounds me.
    • I feel a sense of fearlessness as I confront the fish, knowing that I am the ban of creatures subaqueous.
    • I am deeply aware of the barrenness of the world, which amplifies my feelings of solitude and emptiness.

Negative

As much as I love this game I just can't give it a positive rating when it's supposed to be a chatroom and the chat is the most broken part of the game. There will always be players who's messages always show up late or not at all. Leaving and rejoining will fix it for the affected players but just break it for other players in return.

  • Sentiments

    • I love this game, which shows a strong positive sentiment towards the overall experience.
    • I cannot give it a positive rating because the chat, which is a core feature, is broken.
    • The chat is supposed to be a central part of the game, but it is the most broken aspect.
    • Messages from some players always show up late or not at all, which is frustrating.
    • Leaving and rejoining the chat temporarily fixes the issue for some players.
    • However, fixing the chat for some players often breaks it for others, creating a cycle of issues.

very fun very great alternative to animal crossing. Would keep playing if there wasn't a literally HACKER NAMED PONDS CLOSED STEALING MY INFO AND GIVING ME A TROJAN. for people who might say that it isn't PONDS CLOSED, my pc did a routine scan before I played and it found nothing. A few hours later after I got off the game (after PONDS CLOSED joined and left) all of a sudden I have a virus?!?! no coincidence. #ISRUVIVEDPONDSCLOSED

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game to be very fun and a great alternative to Animal Crossing, which makes me enjoy playing it.
    • I would continue playing the game if it weren't for the negative experience I had with a hacker.
    • I am extremely frustrated and upset because a hacker named PONDS CLOSED stole my information and gave me a Trojan virus.
    • I feel betrayed and unsafe because my PC was clean before playing, but after PONDS CLOSED joined, I suddenly had a virus.
    • I am convinced that PONDS CLOSED is responsible for the virus, as there is no other explanation for the timing.
    • I am sharing my experience to warn others about the potential risks of playing this game due to hackers like PONDS CLOSED.

Negative

Initially i really enjoyed the game. Gave indie studio animal crossing vibes. But once you've reached max level and put a few hours into the game. There's not much left to do (besides challenges i guess) but the steam achievements are incredible difficult and purely based on luck. Wish there was more end game content because, again, its a fun cozy game and its a shame it ends after only a few hours of gameplay.

  • Sentiments

    • I initially really enjoyed the game and found it gave off indie studio Animal Crossing vibes, which was a positive experience.
    • I felt the game was fun and cozy, which made it enjoyable to play.
    • I reached max level and put a few hours into the game, but then found there wasn’t much left to do, which was disappointing.
    • I noticed the Steam achievements were incredibly difficult and purely based on luck, which felt frustrating and unfair.
    • I wished there was more end-game content because the game felt like it ended too quickly after only a few hours of gameplay.
    • I appreciated the challenges in the game, but they weren’t enough to keep me engaged for long.
    • I felt it was a shame that the game didn’t have more content, as it had potential to be a longer, more fulfilling experience.

DO NOT PLAY IN CURRENT STATE, there's a hacker entering private lobbies named PONDS CLOSED, joined our closed lobby immediately after a few of us had our credit card info stolen and found a trojan virus on our pc.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel extremely frustrated and unsafe because a hacker named PONDS CLOSED entered our private lobby, which should have been secure.
    • I am deeply concerned and alarmed because my credit card information was stolen after the hacker joined our lobby.
    • I am worried and upset because a trojan virus was found on my PC, likely due to the hacker's actions.
    • I feel violated and betrayed because the game's security failed to protect our private lobby from unauthorized access.
    • I am angry and disappointed because the game's current state is unplayable due to these severe security issues.
    • I feel a strong sense of urgency to warn others not to play the game in its current state to avoid similar risks.

    • I feel a sense of loss and regret for trusting the game's security measures, which ultimately failed.

Negative

If you play, Play alone, Currently a game breaking issue right now (Never happened to me yet thankfully) But there are "players" out there that are hacking into servers and removing peoples save files, It's an extremely annoying bug and I honestly don't know for sure if they can get into friend servers or code servers because I've been doing the game Solo until this gets figured out and situated. And the people who run their reddit servers are asking people to stop telling them about the cheaters... Like really? Sorry that even though you already know about it, It's still not fixed, when you make a game, you're going to have to deal with some grief from people. Or constant reminders that shit is busted.

  • Sentiments

    • I am extremely annoyed by the game-breaking issue where hackers are removing people's save files, which is a major problem that needs to be addressed.
    • I am thankful that the game-breaking issue hasn't happened to me personally, but I am still concerned about its impact on others.
    • I am frustrated that the developers are asking people to stop reporting the cheaters, as it feels like they are ignoring the problem.
    • I am disappointed that the issue hasn't been fixed yet, despite being widely known and reported by players.
    • I am playing the game solo to avoid the risk of encountering hackers, which limits my enjoyment of the game.
    • I am unsure if the hackers can access friend servers or code servers, which adds to my anxiety about the issue.
    • I believe that when you make a game, you should be prepared to handle criticism and constant reminders about issues until they are resolved.
    • I find it frustrating that the developers seem to be avoiding responsibility for fixing the game-breaking issue.
    • I am concerned about the overall state of the game due to the presence of hackers and the lack of a timely fix.
    • I am disappointed that the game's community management is not handling the situation well, which reflects poorly on the developers.
