With an AI Community Rating of 87.46%, this indie gem lets you master flashy combos and outsmart opponents frame-by-frame. Whether you're battling friends online or crafting cinematic fight scenes in single-player mode, the game offers unparalleled depth and accessibility. Players praise its fun, satisfying gameplay and cool mods, but some find the steep learning curve and lack of tutorials frustrating. While the game shines with its TAS-inspired controls and anime-inspired visuals, community feedback highlights the need for better balance, server stability, and more offline content. If you're looking for a unique, strategic fighting experience with endless creative potential, Your Only Move Is HUSTLE is worth the hustle.

What the community wishes

Add proper in-game tutorials
Players need better tutorials to understand gameplay mechanics, especially for new players who struggle against experienced opponents. Current lack of guidance leads to frustration and discourages new players.
Improve replay file format
Replay files should be saved in standard video formats like MP4 instead of proprietary formats. This would prevent replay corruption during updates and make sharing easier.
Balance gameplay mechanics
Certain mechanics like magnetize and block reworks have caused imbalances. Players feel some characters (e.g., robot) have unfair advantages over others (e.g., ninja).
Address server stability issues
Frequent server crashes disrupt matches, making it difficult to complete games. Improving server stability would enhance the overall multiplayer experience.
Expand base character roster
The game currently has only 5 base characters, which feels limited. Adding more characters would increase variety and reduce reliance on mods for diversity.
Add audio sliders for customization
Players want more control over audio settings, such as volume sliders. Currently, this requires workshop mods, which is not ideal for all users.
Reduce repetitive gameplay
After 10+ hours, gameplay can feel repetitive. Introducing more mechanics or modes could help maintain long-term engagement.
Improve matchmaking for new players
New players are often matched against experienced opponents, leading to discouraging losses. A better matchmaking system would help ease beginners into the game.
Add more offline content
The game is heavily focused on multiplayer. Adding more single-player or offline content would appeal to players who prefer solo experiences.
Address mod balance issues
While mods add variety, their balance varies widely. Implementing a system to ensure mods are balanced would improve the overall experience.
Add more visual customization
Players appreciate the simplicity of the graphics but would like more visual customization options for characters and stages.
Improve learning curve accessibility
The steep learning curve can be intimidating for new players. More accessible resources, like beginner-friendly guides, would help ease the onboarding process.
Add more interactive mechanics
The game feels bloated and un-interactive in neutral, disadvantage, and advantage states. Adding more dynamic mechanics could improve engagement.
Expand modding tools
The modding community is strong, but more robust tools and documentation would encourage even more creative and high-quality mods.
Add more replay customization
Players love the replays but want more options to customize and edit them, such as adding effects or changing camera angles.
Address long match durations
Some matches can last up to 50 minutes, which feels excessive. Introducing mechanics to speed up gameplay or reduce match length would help.
Add more competitive features
Players want more competitive features, such as ranked modes or leaderboards, to enhance the competitive aspect of the game.
Improve character move clarity
The extensive move list can be overwhelming. Simplifying or better organizing moves would help players understand and utilize them more effectively.
Add more community events
Hosting regular community events or tournaments would foster engagement and strengthen the game's non-toxic community.
Address repetitive move spam
Some players spam specific moves (e.g., skull shaker), which can feel repetitive and unbalanced. Adjusting move cooldowns or mechanics could address this.

Positive

All of the mind games and strategy of fighting games, with none of the twitch reflexes or fine mechanical movements. Other reviews have compared it to chess, and I cannot overstate how accurate the comparison is. Not only because of the strategy, mind you, but also because it's easy to pick up, but very hard to master. The fact that you can preview every move, even your opponent's moves, does a lot of work towards letting that be the case. Finally, it's dirt cheap and the replays look like super cool stick figure flash animations.

  • Sentiments

    • I appreciate that the game combines the mind games and strategy of fighting games without requiring twitch reflexes or fine mechanical movements, making it more accessible.
    • I find the comparison to chess to be very accurate, as it emphasizes the strategic depth and accessibility of the game.
    • I like that the game is easy to pick up but very hard to master, which adds to its replayability and depth.
    • I appreciate the feature that allows previewing every move, including the opponent's, as it enhances the strategic aspect of the game.
    • I think the game being dirt cheap is a great value proposition, making it accessible to a wider audience.
    • I enjoy how the replays look like super cool stick figure flash animations, which adds a unique and visually appealing element to the game.

Positive

Very fun game, very strategic but not like other strat games. It has a chess type strategy thing but its super fun, like chess but you add dragonball fights to it. Seeing the fight at the end is also very satisfying. (i wrote this while getting gluck gluck from a cambodian boy in my year 11 headstart physics class)

  • Sentiments

    • I find the game very fun and enjoyable, which makes it stand out from other strategy games.
    • I appreciate the strategic elements of the game, which feel unique compared to other strategy games.
    • I like how the game incorporates a chess-like strategy system, which adds depth to the gameplay.
    • I enjoy the addition of Dragon Ball-style fights, which make the game feel exciting and dynamic.
    • I find the fights at the end of the game very satisfying, which adds to the overall enjoyment.

Positive

This game is so good, like no glaze but I love how easy it is to download the mods and stuff. I especially like recreating fights that never happened in shows. And even some of the oringinal characters are good too. I would recommend downloading this game. It worth the time and effort put into it.

Positive

some dude (my friend) comboed me from full hp to 0 hp with a base character while i had a modded character. i am not good at this game. despite that, i had fun getting beat down so hard that i forgot how to play irl. fun game. buy.

  • Sentiments

    • I had fun despite being beaten down so hard that I forgot how to play in real life, which shows I enjoyed the experience even in defeat.
    • I acknowledge that I am not good at this game, which reflects a neutral self-assessment of my skills.
    • My friend comboed me from full HP to 0 HP with a base character while I had a modded character, which felt unfair but was still entertaining.
    • I found the game fun overall and would recommend others to buy it, indicating a positive overall impression.

Negative

If you're going to get into this game, know that this is a fundamentally communal experience. If you don't already have a group of friends who are into the game, the new player experience is going to be actively hostile; no Singleplayer (the "Singleplayer" option in the lab menu has no AI and would be better called a sandbox/training mode), no tutorial explaining the (very large) moveset of the various characters, nothing. The five characters are apparently really complex and nuanced; I'm going off reputation here because I don't feel comfortable doing my own matchmaking and getting pubstomped by expert level players (did I mention there's no matchmaking?). Yeah, if you're not getting this on the advice of a friend who will be patient with you while you learn, don't bother. And if you are, why are you reading reviews?

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that this game is fundamentally a communal experience, which emphasizes the importance of playing with friends or a group.
    • I find the new player experience to be actively hostile, especially if you don't already have a group of friends who are into the game.
    • I am disappointed that there is no proper singleplayer mode; the so-called 'Singleplayer' option is more of a sandbox/training mode with no AI.
    • I feel frustrated by the lack of a tutorial to explain the very large moveset of the various characters, making it hard for new players to learn.
    • I believe the five characters are complex and nuanced, but I can only go off reputation because I haven't experienced them fully myself.
    • I am uncomfortable with the idea of doing my own matchmaking and getting pubstomped by expert-level players, especially since there is no matchmaking system.
    • I think this game is not worth getting unless you have a friend who is patient and willing to help you learn.
    • I find it odd that the review suggests not bothering with the game unless you already have a friend recommending it, which feels exclusionary.
    • I feel that the game's design heavily relies on having a pre-existing group of friends, which limits its accessibility to new players.
    • I am skeptical about the game's appeal to solo players or those without a dedicated group, given its lack of support for new players.

Negative

I really wanted to give this game a chance. The concept of tactic fighting game is so innovative. However, the lack of a tutorial and the poorly readable UI discouraged me from delving into this game. I also had an unpleasant experience with multiplayer. If you want to click "Lock in" every turn because you are unable to make any move during the combo of a more experienced opponent, I recommend it. Despite that the price is worth to try it and I believe that the game may appeal to a certain group of people, but it simply did not meet my expectations

  • Sentiments

    • I really wanted to give this game a chance because the concept of a tactic fighting game is so innovative.
    • The lack of a tutorial made it difficult for me to understand and engage with the game.
    • The poorly readable UI discouraged me from delving deeper into the game.
    • I had an unpleasant experience with multiplayer, especially when facing more experienced opponents.
    • I found it frustrating to click 'Lock in' every turn because I was unable to make any move during the combo of a more experienced opponent.
    • Despite the issues, I believe the price is worth trying the game.
    • I think the game may appeal to a certain group of people, even though it did not meet my expectations.

Negative

If you want a cool looking battle sim, go for it. If you actually want a fighting game, it's extremely bloated, poorly balanced, un-interactive and un-fun is neutral, disadvantage, and advantage, and its extremely slow. Don't play it.

  • Sentiments

    • I think the game looks cool and visually appealing, which might be a reason to try it.
    • I feel the game is extremely bloated, making it overwhelming and hard to enjoy.
    • I find the game poorly balanced, which negatively impacts the overall experience.
    • I believe the game is un-interactive, which makes it feel disconnected and less engaging.
    • I think the game is un-fun in neutral, disadvantage, and advantage states, making it unsatisfying to play.
    • I feel the game is extremely slow, which detracts from the excitement and pace of gameplay.
    • I would not recommend playing this game if you are looking for a proper fighting game experience.

Negative

got old real fast and the game doesn't really feel any different from when it released. it even got less fun to play over time because of bad balancing and little to no improvements to the game from release.

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that the game got old very quickly, which made it less enjoyable over time.
    • I think the game doesn't feel any different from when it was first released, which is disappointing.
    • I believe the game became less fun to play over time due to poor balancing.
    • I feel there were little to no improvements made to the game since its release, which is frustrating.

Negative

with hindsight this game started the slippery slope of game balancing when magnetize was getting its reworks first big sign was the block rework then robot getting more movement than ninja i main ninja and i want magnetize back it was so fun the reads you could pull off and the replays were so sick

  • Sentiments

    • I feel that the game started a negative trend in balancing with the reworks of magnetize, which marked the beginning of a slippery slope.
    • I noticed the first major sign of this trend with the block rework, which I believe negatively impacted the game's balance.
    • I am frustrated that robots now have more movement than ninjas, which feels unbalanced and unfair.
    • As a ninja main, I deeply miss magnetize and feel its removal took away a lot of fun from the game.
    • I remember magnetize being incredibly fun, and I enjoyed the strategic reads and plays it allowed.
    • I loved watching replays of magnetize plays because they were so exciting and impressive.
